I’ve come across a rather odd issue regarding v-sync. I recently deployed Windows 8 on my PC. Now when in Guild Wars 2. My FPS seems to be capped to 32FPS exactly, no matter what I do. Unless I turn ON Vsync, yes ON. Not off. I get 60fps with it on. Obviously the game should not be behaving this way. I think it may have something to do with Windows 8 or drivers for Windows 8, but not sure.

I use an Nvidia 580GTX and I’ve tried the newest Beta driver, and the newest stable driver releases. Interestingly enough, I did a reinstall of the direct X libraries while I was troubleshooting the issue, and it seemed to resolve my issue for awhile, but the next day it was back, and reinstalling the direct x again did nothing this time.

I’ve played with all the settings in my Nvidia driver control panel, forced vsync off and on too it still is stuck at 32 fps. Just want Anet to be aware of this issue. Not even sure its anything they can fix. Might be Nvidia’s problem. In my troubleshooting I’ve also deleted the GW2 local.dat file inside documents which keeps track of your graphics settings etc. This made no difference.

Attached is a screenshot of the FPS counter with vsync being toggled on and off, inside a controlled environment. The character select screen.

Anyone else running across this issue?

Just another bug in this kittened up client.

I have higher FPS when I go into windowed mode and the game could care less what settings I switch on/off.

You probably have adaptive v-sync turned on. Adaptive V-sync caps your FPS at HALF of your refresh rate. Check if it’s on in your driver settings

Normal Adaptive Vsync does NOT cap your fps at half ..thats ‘Adaptive Vysnc(half refresh rate)’ your thinking of.. but yes check make sure you have not got that applied.

TBH though, if you get 60 fps with vsync ON ..leave it ON .. With Vsync on you wont get the horrible screen tearing issue (asuming your eyes capable of seeing it, differs person to person)

Yeah its not any adaptive vsync setting or anything like that I did play with those, its not a huge deal anyway. Just wanted to bring this to the attention of the devs and see if anyone else has been having this issue or has a workaround.

I’d hate to resurrect a year old thread but yes, I, even now…2/27/2014…have just experienced this issue and without this post I would’ve never understood what was causing the issue. At first, I thought it was Quicktime or eMedia Piano and Keyboard Method, but no, it was this joke of an issue. Thanks for the help guys.

I only bumped this because it’s evidently still relevant for some of us who have reloaded our machines or haven’t played in over a year and are returning. A lot of people out there are still screaming about FPS issues and this may fix some of their issues as it did mine.
