Hello!

A close friend of mine whom i have gamed with for a long time has been banned from Guild Wars 2 for alleged Botting.
Upon further investigation with another guild member we have discovered that potentially 4 other guild members 1 an officer have also been banned for the same reason as they were playing with him at the time farming karkas.
We would like to know why this has happened, you say that you analyse every ban in person. If that was the case then this is one hell of a human error banning 5 people for literally just playing the game. Try checking party chat!!!

Ticket number : 448714
His IGN is District Bear

People don’t get banned or suspended for what they are doing at that time. For botting, either someone reports a suspected bot or ANet’s computers see botting programs. Either way, this is then investigated by a support personnel and the decision is made according to what programs ANet’s computer has detected. This takes time, possibly several days from start to finish. So party chat here is irreverent if he had been using some sort of botting program in the past.

They do ask you to allow them at least 72 hours to evaluate his ticket and situation. If it hasn’t been 72 hours then he need to wait while they look into it.

Sorry for not being clear, he wasn’t banned at the time he was farming karkas but we narrowed it down to that being the reason as the other guild players who were with him haven’t been seen since the 12/13th either. It was later that day that the ban happened. I have no idea how the detection of bots work but this surely is not an efficient way.
I don’t know what you mean by a decision being made according to what programs anets computer has detected i’m sorry.
It has been over 72 hours since the ticket was filed. He just wants to get back to gaming!

You can post his ticket number in the appropriate Sticky. Pleas about his innocence aren’t really allowed on the forums. Good luck.

What Astral said is not 100% accurate, whilst it may be normal for them to investigate,
Anet do ban on the spot for botting.

It has happened to me and my guildies.

So if your in a party with same tag near a bot hotspot, then a dev or vigilante will get you all banned and its perma.

No, they do not ban on the spot. They investigate first. Especially considering it is more or less impossible to see on the spot if someone is actually botting without following them around for quite some time.

The only time I have read of anything like this is the reports of one ANet employee for one day handing out suspensions for people AKFing at LA. I haven’t seen any other threads or reports of what you are saying and I strongly suspect there is more to your story than what you are saying right now. Such a ban can not be upheld. If this was appealed to Gaile and she investigated it, it would not hold. Are you are accusing her of incompetence or upholding unjust bans?

So, if you have a true case (which I doubt) then report it to Gaile. Put your ticket number in the stickied thread, Tickets for Review, 3 Days and older.

We all got banned for botting and it was instant perma ban.
We all know each other in rl. We either work together or go pub together.
We’ve all played same games together.
We were all less than 1 month in the game.
So I say ‘why don’t we all make party and go do some hearts?’ So we did.
I was afk at a spawn for about 2 mins max.
I come back and there is a whisper from someone who is not around anymore so I ignore it.
Within minutes we are all perma banned for botting.

After I cool off I respond to the ban saying we’re not bots and I don’t understand why we are banned and they straight away change it to a suspension. We must have been clean as a whistle or we would have been left banned. Or are you saying Anet allow some exploiting? You doubt we had a true case so you think we were exploiting something?
I dealt with it using proper channels, I don’t have to report it to you. So maybe that’s why you never heard about it.
I just share my experience here cos it happened to someone else but now I’m lyer and exploiter. gg.

After thinking about it a while, I can remember one case similar to what you are saying. That case is the bans/suspensions concerning the linen farm exploit on Fireheart rise where large numbers of people on one or two servers at the end of Dec 2013 were banned at once. Allegedly, from unconfirmed reports, some of these people said they were simply in the area and were innocent. In this one case it seems ANet did a mass ban to stop an exploit and then did reversals on a case by case basis.

If this is what happened to you then I apologize for suggesting you were lying.

It was in 2012 my case.
We were in 1-15 area. Snowden Drifts if i remember correctly so not the same case.

Devs are not perfect and make mistakes. They may be able to undo them but we was all still punished even after it’s established we’re not bots.

Vigilantes are not perfect or qualified to police the game.

lol, one guy still buys gems from anet and I say to him ‘Why?’, ’They’ll ban you again.’
But we’re the type who support games.
But I changed my attitude now and have never spent a penny on Anet gem store. I can be stubborn like that. How I want to but I force myself now to refrain and it’s working.
lol, I even gave up on LA event when I heard they were banning. I just know the phone will ring at the wrong time and I’ll come back to a ban again.

ok Astral, np.

The only ones that can ban are ANet employees. Other players, acting as vigilantes or not, can only report. This report then has to go through the system and then be acted upon by someone in support. This normally takes a day or two, which is why it is unusual for someone to be banned at the time they are actually doing something.

If support was sloppy then their procedures need to be examined. I would suggest you post your ticket number in the stickied thread, however they have changed the support tickets and old information may be no longer retrievable as well as this being an old and resolved case. I got a “permanent” mistaken ban for gold selling/buying and I’ve heard of others so I know that support does make mistakes. You might have to just have to put it down as ‘one of those things’.
