Poor performance with my HD7970
There are many complaints about the game’s optimization with AMD GPU’s, especially with the crossfire. It’s just something to be fixed, we need to wait patiently.

What cpu are you running? Also what version drivers are you using and have you downloaded and installed the latest CAP?

I’m running an Intel i7 3370K at stock speed (3,5 GHz). I have the latest AMD Catalyst, 12.8 installed, and have no idea what CAP is!
I find it a shocker that the game runs so poorly even if it’s capped to the CPU, since the 3770K is one of the if not the best CPU money can buy right now for desktop PC’s.
I have updated the original post with all my hardware specs.

Check out amds support page for drivers. They just updated the drivers to 12.8 as well as just updated the CAPs (or Catalyst Application Profiles). Download and install both of them. Nothing special you have to do besides that. After your computer reboots give GW2 a try again and let me know how it runs. The CAP should improve performance of GW2.

Thanks ever so much, installing those Application Profiles has greatly improved my performance, to the point where rotating the camera hardly causes a decrease in FPS anymore!
Again, thank you very much!
this seems to be an issue with AMD and nVidea chipsets so its not your card, just have to give them time to make some optimaizations
Youre very welcome

Try disabling Hyper Threading in your motherboard Bios, worked for me…for some reason the game doesn’t like it…
Also put the Shadows option in the game to low
I’m having this exact same issue with the exact same card, except my fps ruberbands between 20 and 55fps, I tried installing application profiles and it doesn’t seem to have actually added any profiles o_0
I wouldn’t normally suggest this as I feel it should be pretty basic knowledge, but sadly it seems to be a common problem with people these days.
Make sure you are running your graphics card in a pci-e 16x speed slot and that your BIOS isn’t limiting the pci-e slot because of overclock settings. You can see your current pci-e bus speed with http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/
I’ve seen people report that they have their $500+ video cards installed in 4x slots or BIOS limiting the pci-e slot to 1x with power saving features. Anyway good luck.
@Serbius You wont see the profile in the catalyst control center. The profiles are added but they’re not user set profiles.

There is a turning bug when shadows are set to ultra as I’ve been discussing here:
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/60738-weird-performance-issues-with-sli/
Set shadows slightly lower should resolve the turning issue. Well it did for me and another guy anyway.
GTX 6GB Titan@1160Mhz
3007WFP@2560x16000
Good to know that I won’t see them, however they haven’t helped at all. I’ve tried running on lowest graphics, I’ve tried turning shadows off completely, this hasn’t changed anything. I get the same performance, regardless of graphical settings. It is definitely running in an x16 port slot and gpu-z is reporting x16 bus @ x16
I will have to check the bios for power saving options, so far i’ve turned off intel speed step, but i haven’t messed with pci power setting yet. I am running on high performance power settings. I have 8 physical cores, no hyperthreading.
How much performance did the CAP give you? im running a HD 7970 as well with an i7 2600k @3.4 GHZ and im currently getting about 30 FPS in gendarren fields with everything on ultra, including shadows but the render sampling is set to normal, the CAP didnt seem to give me any performance boost . I just expect to be getting alot more, should i be? is so any other tips? :/ its abit disheartening

AMD still needs to come out with some new drivers, seriously their 12.8 ones are 2 months old and their beta drivers are a version behind (12.7), theres no hope in sight for us…

The 12.8 driver is less than a month old 15/8/2012.
Got 2 different PC’s here my girlfriends running a 5770 not sure what settings she is useing on the 12.8 drivers and mine running 7970 on the 12.7 beta drivers everything set to ultra and the game is running realy smooth for us.
Afew things I can sugest check is your CPU and GPU temps while in the game might be over heating.
Also this is a bug I get some times hasn’t happend to me in GW2 but had it happend in WoW and ME3 from time to time is the graphics card will sometimes get stuck in iddle or 2d clock this can happen to Nvidia cards aswell.
You can use a program like affterburner to monitor your graphics cards clock speeds, it has an on screen disply aswell so you can watch them in real time while your in game.
