Potential CPU upgrade....
From what i have read so far maybe 5-10% more .. however if you have actually
20 FPs at Svanir Shaman that would be 21-22% FPs .. so not really a big difference
and everything else where you already have 60+ there it also not really matters.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
An i7 won’t make any difference for GW2; unless you have other reasons for buying one you’d basically be throwing away money to get one.

First thing I would do is to overclock that cpu as much as you can.
Then make sure the gpu is running at x16 and down some cpu graphic options:
- Reflections to “Terrain & Sky”.
- Character Limits to “Medium” or “High”.
- Shadows to “High”.
- Enable “Effects LOD”.
- Disable “High texture character”.
With all this you should be able to run the game pretty decently. 25fps is world boss fightsand blobVSblob, 35-40fps in guild zergs and cities, 60fps while roaming, pvp and general pve.
i7 5775c @ 4.1GHz – 12GB RAM @ 2400MHz – RX 480 @ 1390/2140MHz
okay guys, im a hardware enthusiast, but gw2 seems to be crapping on me every now and then.
My current spec is:
Corsair h240
Intel i5 4670k@3.8ghz (minor OC)
EVGA GTX 980 SSC @ stock
AVEXIR core 2113mhz
Kingston Hyper X 3k SSD w/windows 7(soon to be 10) and GW2
1tb hdd
500gb hdd
100gb 2.5 hddIm debating getting an i7 4790k/4770k -
Would i see any performance increases?
Im not too sure if GW2 will actually improve or if the increase in single threaded performance will be noticeable -Thoughts/opinions?
The 4790k stock is at 4.0ghz with a 4.4ghz turbo setting. That alone will make the game faster. But you know what? You can clock the 4670K to that high and get similar performance. Try 4.6ghz@1.25v and see if you can get it stable. Just make sure your RAM is running at 1600mhz.
The Hyper threading accounts for 10% performance on average, and that really depends on core leveling and core utilization. The higher the utilization the lower effectiveness of HT.
So will getting the i7 give you more performance over the i5? yes, but it also depends on what YOU define as more.
Is 10%~ worth the investment to you?

Ty for the replies chaps!
Im gonna try giving it a good old OC before sinking money into a new CPU.
Will need a new cooler for it though, a corsair h80 wont cut it for this adventure!

Hey,
Its true the performance increase between the i5 and i7 is approx 10-11% in PVE. Surprisingly its even less less in large zergs. Have a look through my forum posts and you’ll see a benchmark comparison between the two for gw2.

Upgrade from what you have for other games, not this one as you have a pretty top notch gaming system there.
Be aware in six months or less Skylake CPUs will by out in quantity and that’s a shift from socket, chipset and RAM type.

my 3570k @4,6 was dying at mid-high settings @1080p as soon as i went with 5820k and all that jazz i can play plain ultra settings @1440p without worrying about spikes and dips. I only play WvW if that makes any difference. So unless you are going with X99 i wouldnt recommend you because overall it will make too much of a difference you would be better off waiting the next gen intel series and see what difference it makes in terms of performance.

what GPU did you have with the 3570K and what GPU do you have with the 5820K?
