Problem opening/logging in?
If you have any further issues or errors, post back.
Tell us about your system specs, OS, and what errors you’re getting.
I am having the exact same problem.
I’ve left the program open for quite some time, still no progress.
Have restored from a backup from a couple of weeks ago via Time Capsule – no good
Deleted Guild Wars 2 folder in Application Folder in my Library folder – no good
Any ideas anyone?
Try these starting from 1, I know you deleted the folder already, but sometimes in combination it could help.
Verify if your firewall is on/active, test with it disabled if it is on.
Restart modem/router. Restart comp.
As a thought… I had this issue a few weeks back (before cut throat politics sometime, so maybe more) and my fix was essentially this:
Restart client about 10 times, then restart comp, restart client once or twice more… Bingo!
That was my lazy fix because I didn’t want to delete the folder and re-enter my password lol. I ended up doing it later for another issue and haven’t had any issues since.
Hope this helps, post back please
I have now restored ( from Time Capsule ) my oldest version of GW2 and let it update itself. ( Previously I had restored from a two week old copy )
The game now launches correctly and appears to be ok.
Lets hope I don’t have the issue again in the future.
Ok, problem is back again tonight!
First time trying to login after the Clockwork Chaos update.
Looks like I’ll soon be back to World of Warcraft.

Hey sfinlay,
Have you tried the steps on the sticky that Kyllaa posted? If you have can you include your System specs and what OS you’re running off of?
An issue like this happens to me about 10% of the time for me. I open the game and it appears the .exe gets stuck checking for an update and doesnt get to the screen where i can log in. There is no alt+F4 to end the task nor does “end process tree” kill the GW2 process when in the task member. The only way to get past this is to shut down my pc completely and turn it on. All other programs and functions in Windows 7 work fine. There is no regular way to make this happen. Sometimes it is the first time I turn my pc on and sometimes it is the 2nd or 3rd time opening the game without rebooting the PC.
I do wonder if this has something to do with my solid state hard drive and how it operates as I never saw this before I got my SSD. I have been using the SSD for 5 months now and I only see this issue about 10% of the time myself.
Whatever is causing this though is making GW2 unkillable which is odd to me. I can kill GW2 any other time when it is operating normally. This is the only time windows shows it as not responding.
Are you trying to force quit using alt+command+esc?
However, even when my client hangs like this, I can still quit the process, so you may have another issue going on.
On another note, you didn’t mention a Mac OS, only windows 7 and pc, so I may be barking up the wrong tree. But I did double check to make sure I was still posting this on the mac forum ;p
