Why is my game client Re-Downloading all the game files, i have a 2mb net for the next 2-3 weeks and it is not exactly fun to wait for this thing to DL, the last time i closed my game it closed normally, when i closed my PC, Win 7 did not report any hanging programs, nor did it create a log off HF’s happening during shutdown, or the next time i bootedup, so now i am waiting for it to DL, and Anet’s suggested solutions were something i had done way before even making the post, so they hastily closed the thread without merging the post henche denying any chance of getting an actual answer, Thank you charles… nothing personal, just wish you had read the posts :S

So solution/answer(s) i am looking for:

-Why in the hell is my client redownloading the whole game when i am not running a repair, and why did it skip verification to begin with.
-Can i expect this to happen often?
-Can we circumvent this?
-Can we manually download some file that magically fixes this issue.
-Could Anet give us the option to decide when we want to repair it and when we dont(would be nice to have it back)

those are the questions i was looking for an answer, and a solution, Anet Rep. did not give it, did not read the posts, just slammed it shut and forwarded to a generic QA.

Here is hoping for an actual answer this time around.

Same thing for me. Actually, yesterday it downloaded while I was at work. Played it last night, even closed the program/restarted, still let me play. I even restarted the computer last night and brought it right back up. Now get home today and hit it, it starts redownloading/installing the entire 10+ hour deal! No clue what it is. One thing I do see is, the folder it is supposed to be installing to, only 3 files get downloaded to. It shows it downloading file after file, but the file it is supposed to be saving to only has the same 3 files in it the whole time. Not sure if it is downloading to some temporary folder somewhere?

the whole game actually seems to be in one big blob of a DAT file
so its actually recompiling it as it downloads :S

Lets start a little friendly wager here. Local time here is now 01:16 19th september, the person who guesses closest to the time my Re-Dl of the game ends, wins 10 silver in game, Re-DL is aprox 166K files left of 216K it has been running now for 5 hours 18 minutes.
The dl rate varies between 180kb/s to 250kb/s

Hmmm, I won’t know until it finishes the “10+ hour install”, but I just did this and so far I can close out the installation and when I start it up again it is starting with the same amount of files remaining to download as when I closed it. Before, if I closed it, it would start all the way over. Not sure if this fixed it, but here is what I did. (Won’t know until it’s over)

uninstall GW2/delete all the files you can find for it. Reinstall the GW2setup application. Right click on this and click “troubleshoot compatibility”. After this, I’m not sure. I clicked on “try recommended settings”. After all this, it actually installed 4 files in the GW2 folder instead of the 3 that it was before.

Something for you to give a try at least. I’m hoping it works.

The three files it put in the GW2 folder before were Gw2.dat, Gw2 the App, Gw2.tmp. After I did above, it installed a Local.dat in it as well.

I would say, see what happens if you close it out and then open the installation back up. Only bad thing is, I wouldn’t want it to start all the way back over for ya, but if it does start back over, then my fix up there may work. I can close my download and reopen it and it is still at the same files remaining as when I closed it.

I’m going to try restarting the computer. If it starts back up with same remaining, then I think I fixed it (hopefully our cases are the same)

problem is not starting at the same remaining file count problem is game forcing us to re DL the whole game, i am giving what you suggested a try anyway even though it restarts the DL.

Hey, I know it is going to suck for you since you’re so far in, but I just restarted my computer and it started back up with the same files remaining to download.
If you want to, try closing out of the download, and if you restart it and it starts all the way back over try what I did up a few posts. It seems to have worked for me (hopefully)

All I’m thinking is, if it is restarting the download with the same files remaining, it should be keeping them somewhere. I think the first time I installed it, my computer restarted in the middle of the night and I went to resume the download and the files remaining started all over. At least in that regard, this is looking better than before.

If the downloader restarts at initial file count every time, it isn’t saving the files anywhere, like mine is now, it “appears” it is saving the files somewhere since I just restarted computer and it started the download back up in the same spot.

I’m just hopin’ it works, can’t think of anything else. You’d think the company would know something about it…

the local DAT file goes to same place where it was, in documents Guild Wars 2. well…. redownload restarted. sigh this kitten is gonna take 2 days to get fixed atleast, and i am pointing my finger at Anet… Companies put their games to open beta for a week or 2 for a reason :S But yeah, dont know if it helps or not, will find out in 24 hours i gues. atleast at the rate it is going.

94% done…. soon within an hour or 2, will be the moment of thruth, and i will be making a manual backup in case Anets brainchild makes another misshap like this xD

works, kinda sad that you gotta wait through a PoS full ReDL of the client files when this happens, what a bad decision to make the game one big file :S
