Problems recovering account
The only way for your friend to recover his account is for him to go through the support process. There is no other way to do so. If he is unwilling to go through the process then he will have to go without.
Maybe I wasn’t clear. What i want to know, is having the product key/receipt enough to actually get anything done. He’s already been through support and all they did was ask him questions that he didn’t have answers to. He doesn’t want to go through that again. He’ll go through support if they’re actually going to solve the problem.
With the information that he has all your friend can do is try. I’m not sure what questions from support your friend was not able to answer. I would think having a product key and receipt should help his case, billing information should help as well if he has it. However, nothing will happen unless he contacts support and goes through the process. If he isn’t willing to do so, or “go through that again”, then there is no chance he will be able to recover his account.
Ok, one more time, in hyper detail.
It all started way back when, when my buddy played gw1, he quit and it was whatever. Years later GW2 comes out and he say “hey, that looks cool.” He buys it and tries to link it to his email, only to find out that he cannot make a new account with the same email since he already has it linked to GW1. He cannot log into his existing account since it’s been years and he no longer remembers the password. (He’s one of these computer types that likes random strings of letters and numbers) In order to reset his password he has to have the name of a character on his account. He doesn’t have this either since it’s been years. He has NO information from his GW1 account. Support tells him that without that info they can’t help him. So he said kitten it and decide to just create a new email for it and let that be it. He stops playing after a month or two. Now, being a total kitten he’s lost his second email. He’s come back and would like to start playing again.
Since I started this thread he said “Kitten it, I’ll just get it again for $10” only to run into the same problem of being unable to link it to his original and “sole” email. He has since gone into a blind rage, begun frothing at the mouth, yelling, and from what I can tell has resigned to a sulky shower.
He refuses to just create a new email for the new code saying that the same thing will inevitably happen. He has also contacted support. It’s kind of a bummer since because of his personal hangups and Anet poor infrastructure we can’t play, but at this point I no longer care and I’m just keeping you appraise since it’s turned kinda funny.
