Problems with campus network and GW 2?
No solution. Your campus made a smart choice blocking access to the game. For starters, games have an infinitely higher bandwidth requirement than browsers. To top it off, that bandwidth is better served being used for more…academical reasons.
But one mate who also lives here can play normaly and he did not get any problems?
I moved back to campus and when i started GW 2 , it says i cant , so i presumed it was because of campus network. I tried searching others posts like my own , 0 succes.
So did anyone had this problem?P.S. i know it is a wron section of forums , but there is more people here so more might be able to help :P
My wife had the same problem at her campus, she made her phone into a hotspot* and plays off of that with no problems. Not sure if that fits your situation?
edit: she plays another game, not GW2

More then likely he has circumvented the campus network blockages and is doing so against the terms and conditions of the campus internet. (i.e. illegally) and is likely to get his privlages revoked. Either that or he’s using a different network.
It’s the chain I beat you with until you
recognize my command!”
It’s possible the way they are blocking the game is by blocking traffic on a swath of TCP/UDP ports that are not commonly used for anything other than gaming.
If this is the case, you should be able to circumvent it by telling the game client to use a different port.
1. Find your shortcut to GW2.exe. If you don’t have one, find the .exe, right click, and select “Create Shortcut”
2. Right click on the shortcut and click “Properties”.
3. In the “Target” field, outside of the quotes, put this: -clientport 80
If 80 (HTTP) doesn’t work well, change the value to 443 (HTTPS), and that may work better. If that doesn’t work at all, then it’s probably a different issue, but I suspect that might be what they’re doing.

Glad I could help! I didn’t even know about that option, so I learned something as well. Have fun!
Using – clientport80 may not be the best salotion it would be better to contact your campus IT administrator and see if they will port foreward the ports the game needs to run properly. they will do this for you for a small one time fee and you may need to sign an agreement that if any illegal activity happen on your pc you will be held responsible. Guild Wars 2 requires TCP ports 80, 443, 6112 and port 6600 be fully unrestricted and accessible, both inbound and outbound. The problem with the -clientport80 trick is it forces the game threw one port and you most likely will get lag.
put the correct term in but not everyone has kittens

Good luck getting the Campus IT staff to open ports for a game. If you came to me asking to open ports for a game on a school campus I would tell you to go away :-)
And it is not simple ports anymore as a lot schools are using L7 firewalls, such as PaloAltoNetworks, which are fully application aware. There is a application setting for Guildwars and Guildwars2 which can be set to rate-limit or deny the game from running and its not done on the port level.
Getting those IDP/IPS rules elevated to allow application sets to go through usually has to go through the CSO or CTO of the school before it can be approved since thats a security policy that needs to be edited. Not something that is normally easily done.
