Guild Wars 2

Hello everyone. It’s the first time I post here. however, let’s go to the point!
I had many problems with my client. I’ll explain everything in (about) a nutshell.
1) Everytime I start the client: After clicking “Play” the screen goes black with a blue bar flashing on the top of my screen. So I need to reboot my computer (because if I try to open something that requires Flashplayer it won’t work) hoping that the next time everything will go right.
2) Today I just deleted some useless programs for freeing space in my Hard Disk, hoping that is the cause of my black screen (as I read somewhere in the internet after hours of research). I has 95 Mb of free space… Deleted some useless thing and I got 47 Gb free (25 Gb requested with the Minimum Requirements)
3) After this… I reopen the client and the client won’t start, stuck where it says “0 Kb” without going on.
4) Okay. I decided to uninstall the game because I was unsecure of what I deleted from my computer. If I try to uninstall the game through the normal process… It won’t because it will return to the “0 Kb” screen. I try to force the uninstall by deleting everything on my computer (I know it’s not “fair” but I needed it. I was really angry and tired because there was nothing to do with it)
5) Deleted everything. I insert the Game Disk in my computer. The “0 kb” screen re-appears… Okay… I wait because this time some numbers are rising from it. After reaching about 30,000 Kb the process closes itselft without a valid reason.

That’s it.
My System is:
OS: Microsoft Windows XP Professional – Service Pack 3 – 32 bit
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5200+
RAM: 3070 Mb
DirectX: 9.0
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT

(P.S. I remember that I deleted “Akamai Net Session” and “Pando Mediabooster” (I really hate Pando. I’ts used in every game installation. Bothersome. Annoying.)

I have had all sorts of downloader/installer problems with this game. I have also managed to get them all fixed so far, but here are a list of things that I have found helped

1. Do not install GW2 to your program files. Also, desktop is not ideal. Install it into a new folder on your C: drive

2. Make sure and install it as administrator

3. AVG is buggy with the game, but so is Avast. Disable it while installing

4. Use Google DNS address…open up your Network and Sharing Center, and open up the properties of your internet connection. Double click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4). Select Use the following DNS server addresses and in the first line put 8.8.8.8 and in the second line put 8.8.4.4 (if there is something else already there please write it down to revert it back later). Click okay and reset your connection, now try downloading the rest of the files. Remember to change the DNS settings back as they were after you finish downloading the patch.

When all else failed, I did all of this and it worked

Couple of notes. That system:

a. I love XP, but Windows 7 64 bit would be recommended at this point in life cycle. You can use more memory which is good cause 3 gigs of memory is a bit low

c. You can get by with a dual core, but performance wise, GW2 will use all 4 cores if you have them.

I’ve never had problems since “Lost Shores” now that I think of it ^^
I play with medium performances with maximum FPS. However. I also installed the game with Avast active, 3 months ago. Well… dunno what nor why but after some patches I got those problems. However I can try to re-install the program with your tips. Thank you, I’ll let you know.
If anyone’s has other tips, just post. It’s not concluded yet
I didn’t want to be self-righteous, but I simply said what I did and what I got, without saying that I won’t use your advice. Even better, I think (or I hope) that this will help me.

Sorry, I need to repost:
I did everything you said but I cannot change DNS because if i change it and then i restart the connection the options resets itself.
If I toggle off Avast, nothing happens. After charging 30000 Kb, the “0 Kb” screen disappear and re-appear then pop out again… forever. I can’t install the game anymore like I did the first time 3 months ago and I wasn’t able to uninstall the game properly because it gave me errors and then made me send a crash report. I tried many times but everytime I tried there was the crash report. I think I devastated my computer in some way because of the forced deletion of the game folder and the registry keys.

Edit#1: My bad, I found how to change DNS directly from my connection client but still can’t obtain nothing from chaning DNS. The same things happens.
Edit#2: After uninstalling the other programs for freeing my HDD i also updated my video card to a recent one.
Edit#3: Wait! Maybe I got it! I don’t know why but “Can you run it?” now says that I have 0 Dedicated Video Ram. ZERO! How?! Maybe the solution is that the new drivers I installed are bad or what? Because after my previously scan on “Can you run it?” gave me positive conclusions. And I cannot access to my NVIDIA Control Panel because of “Non-correspondant version”. I just downloaded the drivers given by the NVIDIA site… Dunno. Let’s try to reinstall everything.

Edit#4: I just reinstalled my video card new drivers with a “clean installation” (resetting every options and profile) and now… I’m finally installing the game with my CD.
I think I won’t have more problems during log in now (I’ll test your tips like disabling Avast while logging in. Thank you again!) Now I just have to wait… I’m feared because the installation now is stuck at 0% “Copying Installation Data…”. I don’t know if it will start to install. Everytime a problem. Ridicolous. I’ll give some information later. At least I can say I arrived to something…

I’m re-installing the game but this time is taking ages. I started the installation from the CD at 10 AM and it’s still at 16%
… anyone can guess why?
LOL. Everytime a problem.
I inserted the second disk and everything went better. Just 10/20 minutes and the install from 50 to 100 in no time LOL
Now… the updates… phew. I think this thread is resolved now.
I just want to say thanks to this guy because he gave me some tips for getting less problems while launching the game. I hope this will work. This topic is closed.
