Pulsating Tone - Sound Glitch
I’ve also been getting this issue, it started to day when fighing the claw of jormag, I never had this issue till today, :/
I also have been getting this glitch when I’m a part of a large group and lots of attacks are going off.
They said two weeks ago they had identified the probable cause of the issue and were looking into it. I too would like an update on where they are at on this.
Tonight was the first time I’ve encountered this, and it happened to me twice within about 10 minutes. Same problem, only exiting to desktop and relaunch stopped the sound.
Have same problem. Happens usually in large events.

+1 Also have the same issue, also only happens during massive events like any of the dragon battles when many people are around. I do have my sound set to maximum quality (for surround) not sure if it’s related. Also if I leave it pulsing for to long the game stops responding and I have to force it down and restart.
I was hoping this audio bug was fixed by last weekend’s patch, but it just happened to me again during an Orr DE. Ugh!
Well it happened again in an Orr DE. This time the game client itself crashed. What the heck? The game was relatively bug free since early access weekend.
Yes, this bug is fairly old. I am still puzzled as to why this is still happening. That siren/sinus curve sound bug is usually happening in WvWvW to me.
Setting mixing buffer size to most stable circumvents it at cost of audio fidelity.
When I’m playing WvW I’m really playing LSD.
I set my audio from lowest latency to most stable and still had the problem. Only turning down the quality from highest to medium seems to help. At least so far.
I’ll post back if it happens again even on that lower quality setting.
I also got this last night for the first time in WvW large battles. Most of the time the game would also just crash shortly after. I have creative Xfi as well.

Errr, yes, sorry I was actually meaning to say setting buffer size to most stable and using the lowest quality at cost of audio fidelity will usually make the problem go away.
I am using an Asus Xonar Essence STX soundcard.

This happened to me numerous time and to my friend. In some instances it was possible to continue playing (but a program restart was needed to fix the sound issue), whereas in other instances the game completely froze. It happened to me early after launch, but it happened to my friend recently….sucks that it hasn’t been fixed yet.
+1 been happening to me during the dragon fights also and in wvw too. makes the game pretty unplayable when you have to keep exiting and coming back into the game
same here, Creative X-Fi
Work around: Don’t use highest quality audio, set the slider one step below highest quality and then reboot the GW2 client. You should no longer get this audio bug. Note: Does not fix existing cases of the bug, a client restart is required to apply this work around.
Been playing for 2+ weeks now without getting the bug anymore, while previously I’d get it after 5 minutes of WvW.

Happened to me lots in WvWvW, like every time after 10 minutes.
Worked out it only happens when using my headset.
Headset is a Logitech G35.
Speakers are a Creative E-MU 0202 to some Alesis M1 Active 620’s.
No idea why this would make a different either way but there you go.
I’ve been getting the same issue the last couple days. The first time it occurred I restarted GW2 and it fixed the issue, the next time it happened the game crashed as I quit to desktop. The most recent time, it crashed before I could quit to desktop.
I have quality set to max, but will be turning it down a tick after reading some responses above.
I have the same problem here. The bug usually happens in very large battles, e.g. fighting one of the dragon lieutenants. It happened after the dragon smashed its claw in the ground, sound completely cut off and was replaced with a pulsating tone. Only restarting the game solves the problem. Changing settings doesn’t help.
I’m using a usb headset – Razer Megalodon.
The thing is, I’ve never had the same problem before, it started happening right after the patch where you could change the sound quality/stability settings.
I hope this gets fixed.
Been getting this issue a lot lately in WvW.
Initially my sound would just break very rarely and assault my ears until I gave up my WvW spot.
Now if it happens I have about 5 minutes before the whole game freezes and I can expect it to happen if I plan any extended time in WvW.
Weird… after the last update the sound of GW2 is stopping and I can only hear a continuous buzz, almost a siren.
No, it is not Nvidia.
Yes, low specs in the sound config
I had the same exact issue.
Yesterday It happened atleast 10 times with 2 crashes. Today as soon as I logged in, I had it happen again within 5 minutes of playing.
I moved the “mixing buffer size” slider to the center towards “Most Stable” setting.
It was all the way down towards “Lowest Latency”
So far after doing this I have not had this issue again. This may fix it for you as well. You could even try sliding it all the way over to “Most Stable” If it still persists for ya. Good luck!
I have this same issue. A pulsating tonal sound. Seems to happen in chaotic situations… WvWvW zerg fights, dragon events, large group events, etc.
