I wanted to know if there is anything I should watch out for?

I’m a CS major, cybersecurity getting into network engineering preparing for grad school hoping for a doctoral.

Working with unix systems yet also being expected to run commercial software and also having a passion for digital art and also needing Windows for so many commercial programs I am drawn to a Macbook Pro, I can run what I need, use Brew to get my Unix / Linux programs, run a VM… I got a new 2017 15 inch macbook pro at a hefty price.

Preparing for a move I just don’t like subscription fees of MMO’s and with health presently I don’t know how much time. Either I’ll be on it 24/7 or just no energy at all.

Anyone sure what I may expect on a 2017 17 inch retina macbook pro? 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7 , 16GB of RAM, Radeon Pro 560 4096 MB.

At my desk I use a 28" 4K monitor, which I am sure will potentially come into play with quality unsure if it is still a glorified wine wrapper?

Nothing against Windows. I just use everything that is syncing up together, phone to watch to tablet to computer and I use unix servers, I grew up with linux systems prior to Windows. It fits my needs.

I’m curious what to expect for quality?

There are two clients at the moment. The 32 bit is a cider(wine) wrap windows binary.

Anet release a 64 bit native client as beta. Anet will probably roll out performance improvement after they squash rendering bugs. I think it might change in a few months since I believe Jon Olson did not implement all the optimizations yet. You should take a look at the mega thread below.

I dont understand why you dont use a linux desktop with an amd card. Wine + gallium 9 should have better performance than whatever mac client Anet puts out since you get all the optimizations on Anet put into Window, and native dx9 support in Mesa. Mac client will always be a second class citizen since they are running a different code path.

I wish Microsoft fix i/o behavior/performance and properly unify software updates. If MS fix those to problem, I would use windows more often.

Thank you. I’m not a huge gamer, so I’ve never had big frustrations. I’ve played what runs that I enjoy that is open for me. I’ll try it out today.
