Hello!

I was wondering if anyone knows how to input Chinese characters in the chat dialog for the Mac GW2 Client. I can type in Chinese for other applications like Word, Excel etc. by changing the Input Source option, but that alone doesn’t seem to work for GW2.

I think you would have to change the system language in order for it to possibly work. Though it’s possible it wouldn’t work then anyway, you’re not really meant to be typing in Chinese in GW2, Only European languages are supported officially (and of course you can type in any language that uses the same characters).

A programs ability to display characters from other languages is dependent on that program, It’s quite possible that the fonts and formats that GW2 uses don’t allow foreign characters to be input, e.g. if the font does not have a chinese equivalent then it has no way of displaying, obviously.

If you are Chinese and wanted to play with other Chinese players you would be better off playing on the Chinese version of the game, rather than on the NA/EU servers.

I’ve seen people chatting in Chinese and Korean so I think that it’s definitely possible, just that I wasn’t sure how to do it on the Mac client since people that I’ve asked were using the PC client.

I was in the Edge of The Mists today and someone I happened to party with told me that he was Taiwanese, and that English was difficult for him to understand. I thought it’d be nice if I were able to type in Chinese in case I meet others like him in the future who might feel slightly uncomfortable in a group of primarily English speakers.

It’s possible that because it is in a cider wrapper you won’t be able to do it.
When you’re working with input on an application basis then it’s done as you’ve noted with word, excel etc. Cider wrappers quite possibly don’t support input for any characters other than english :S In which case you’re at a loss.
