I ordered an 3770k i7 and BIOSTAR TZ77B and would like to overclock it to around 4.0-4.2GHz. I know it can be pushed higher but just want 4.0 for now. Problem is I have lots of experience building PC but never had a reason to overclock. What do you change in the BIOS…multiplier, base clock, or what? Also I will not be replying until tomorrow afternoon due to work.

My other specs are
660ti EVGA 3GB RAM
8 GB of RAM (2GBx4) running in dual channel
630 watt power supply
SATA II disk drive
SSD drive for gaming

I don’t know if we are allowed to put links to other sites on here so I will put spaces in the link. But this site is pretty popular for learning how to overclock.

First you need to have a decent aftermarket CPU cooler not the stock one.
On that motherboard to reach A MILD overclock you can just change the mulitplier and leave the rest on auto. Keep a very close eye on the temperatures running prime 95 to stress test the overclock.
Disclaimer do this at your own risk.

As I don’t own an Ivy-Bridge CPU I can’t guide you through the steps, but I do love OCN for their guides and community. I used a guide on OCN to start overclocking my CPU/GPU and it was an awesome experience. Here is one that looks pretty detailed and gives you more information than you would need, but its a good subject to know.
