Please don’t get mad and swing your ban hammer at me for this (which seems to be happening a LOT) but, if you guys plan to continue to ban people for swearing in game what exactly was the point of installing a profanity filter?

I would think it would exist for the very reason that people wouldn’t have to see something they don’t want to, and if people are sending reports with specific information about people swearing doesn’t that mean they have turned the filter off and are themselves consenting to seeing such things?

I myself have used profanity in game as a means to express anger or frustration with a challenge in game i.e. the AC exploration mode bosses which are insanely hard. Its a bit disconcerting to have to be paranoid about getting banned because someone doesn’t want to see ‘——’ appear on there screen. To me that just seems extreme.

Just some random things flowing through my mind as I browse the forums!

And I get it’s part of the ToS, yet again it just seems unessicary to have made the filter if people will still get banned for saying ‘——’

Profanity filter isn’t a license to use profanity. It’s an odd concept (one that I’ve thought was very strange for the longest time) that people just need to shrug and accept. Behave in game.

It’s not that odd. That’s the way it’s “supposed” to work in WoW, according to them (when someone actually gets suspended for it, this comes up) – they just don’t enforce it very well/at all.

ANet is actually doing something instead of just ignoring it.
