Owned both haswell i5 and i7 prev and was around 10% difference between them in gw2

The i5 is the way to go, you really won’t get much improvement from the i7. Whichever you get, though, make sure to overclock it; GW2 loves single threaded performance which increases linearly with clockrate

Either machine would be more than enough for GW2. My old i7-3930K runs GW2 no problem with most the graphics cranked. Obviously you’ll get more longevity out of the i7, but it’s a big jump in price.
Like Fermi said, overclocking will help performance, but keep in mind that GW2 doesn’t like overclocking in some situations, especially the GPU. If you’re finding you’re crashing, before heading down the long frustrating road on RMAing hardware and trying to debug things, try downclocking back to manufacturer specification. This applies to factory delivered overclocked video cards especially. From my own experience, I would consider overclocking the CPU, but never the GPU.

Did they run at exactly the same clock speed?
i5 6600K is the way to go for a gaming rig.
I just built one after looking at the performance. The i5 performs on par with the i7 in games once overclocked to the same speed. Which it does without breaking a sweat….
i5 and i7 are both gaming worthy. Imo you’re better off getting an i5 and putting more money towards a better GPU, not because this game needs it, but because most other games do. Or if you don’t have an SSD for your rig, try getting one. Guild Wars 2 runs really well off an SSD. I know because I have one in my system.
