R9 270x Gaming - FX 6300 6x3.5gh Low fps
It’s just is what it is. An Intel i5 will outperform an AMD FX in GW2.
I had an FX-6350 and had around 15-20fps in zergs, with a 4790k I have ~50fps with everything maxed including Supersample on at 1080p.
Yet again, the game has a poorly optimized engine, you need to have top-end hardware to play the game at constant 60fps+ with everything maxed, even now, 2 years after its release.
Using GTX 780M and having FPS drop from 3-10 with graphic options at LOW or NONE. This is seriously sad. So much money spent on gpu and GW2 cant even work well or even enjoy the graphic.
Anet you gonna fix this?
We know how gw2 hates amd but this solves nothing. So we still fight here and keep w8ing for some official answer WHEN are they going to fix it.
I was just about to bump thread but it’s getting alive. I like it.
So. Proggres status:
- Installed latest beta Radeon drivers.
- All possible latest windows updates.
Aaaaannnd…. Nothing.
While Dragon Age FPS is kinda more stable now during combat.
So either I’m still opened for new ideas and official answer when is this going to be fixed.
you could try setting gw2 affinity in task manager to use only cores 0 2 4 so that its not using the combined FPU
i am doubting this issue is graphics card related if graphics settings change nothing its a cpu bottleneck
I’ve tried this on very beginning.
And it gives = nothing.
Still thank You for idea.

Its your CPU. The FX line is slow for single threaded applications. and you have a FX6300 (its more of a tri core then a six core). The only choice is to over clock the CPU (as close to 5Ghz as you can), upgrade the CPU to a FX8370 (again overclock as close to 5ghz as you can), or upgrade to an Intel CPU (even a G3220 will beat the FX line in singled threaded performance 2:1).
its a hardware issue.
Laptop: M6600 – 2720QM, AMD HD6970M, 32GB 1600CL9 RAM, Arc100 480GB SSD
was worth a try AMD came up with an architecture that is best suited for the future sadly game engines are not ready for it just yet.
that and Intel isn’t being competitive because in reality they don’t have a 1 to 1 competitor anymore
i would say overclock but you would need good cooling and luck.

Don’t buy hardware by looking for an “architecture that is best suited for the future”. That is marketing bull…. bingo.
Buy hardware that actually and currently has the best cost/performance ratio and that is best suited to your individual use case. Buy by catalog, price list and benchmarks. Don’t buy by brand, marketing and advertisement.
The issue is that AMD skimped on the FPU/Vector unit and placed their money on the dual Int units for their current line of CPUs.
and guess what games run on? FPU/Vector.
That’s why FX is a poor choice for games like GW2 that are majorly ran against your CPU.

No it doesn’t but fine … whatever.
- Frame rate is determined by how fast it takes the render loop and GPU to render a frame.
- The render loop in this game is mostly in a single thread.
- A thread’s maximum performance is determined by the maximum performance of a single core.
- AMD FX cores are roughly half as fast per cycle compared to Intel’s current Haswell core.
It’s just that simple.
Shutting off one core per module for the game might give you a boost in framerate but the game isn’t the only thing running on your system and those other cores will run other threads and drag the module’s performance back down. Just let the OS handle the assignment of threads across cores.
What the OP is seeing is not terrible performance but performance on par with the relative single core performance of their CPU. A 2.8GHz Phenom II quad or hex core would have similar performance.

The thing is, nothing is really broken. The game just relies heavily on single core performance, which AMD lacks.

So anyone got some new ideas maybe.
Or, just still w8ing for some official answer..
Cuz atm for me next step is testing game under Win 10.
Got to try anything i Can (harmless) to make it ‘run’, instead of having ‘slideshow’.

I’m not considering that at all. The point is the same. I bought pc, wasted lot of money on it. And while other game works fine gw2 Chokes in la with 3 ppl next to the mystic forge.
There got to be other way than wasting more $ on upgrading already fine pc.

Looks like a good grahpics card, but it seems like your CPU is bottlenecking (slows down the performance of your graphics card) since it is only at 36% load while running a game like GW2. You can try another massive game like GW2 and post same pictures with it and let us see what results you get.
Edit: and get a more updated version of “core temp” since it lacks features , ie v1.0

This screenshot pretty much tells us what we need to know about his system;
http://i.imgur.com/LDtXrA1.jpg
as you can see, a single core is at 87% while the rest are 70%+. As we know this game favors single core performance due to how they use DX9 here. He is getting low FPS and his CPU is already so highly utilized, but his GPU is only at 60%. (in another screenshot he verified that the GPU is linked at x16 version 2 spec)
I am willing to also bet that the in game settings in this screenshot are on ultra-High across the board.
Only options are to overclock, buy into Intel, or lower in game settings and deal with 30FPS~.

“Only options are to overclock, buy into Intel, or lower in game settings and deal with 30FPS~”
Pretty much this ^
One thing you can do is elevate the GW2 process in task manager but that still won’t net the results you’re hoping for with the limitations of DirectX9. Alternately you could wait for either Zen to be released or wait Anet to implement DirectX12, which probably won’t happen considering DirectX10 was available at the time they were coding GW2. They made an official statement saying they “wanted to appeal to a larger audience”.
GW2 is the only game I’ve noticed a real world difference between my old FX-8350 and my i5-4690k. Every other game I honestly can’t tell the difference. I get roughly 50-70 FPS with my R9 290, i5-4690k, and 16gb of 1866 ddr3 ram running around most area at max. With my old 2 GTX 660s SLI and FX-8350 setup I was getting below 50 in dungeon instances with near max settings.

Well to be honest, at the time gamers weren’t all that impressed by Dx10 and had a worse opinion on Vista.

True enough, and now windows 10(which directX12 will be exclusive to) has it’s own slew of issues. Worse yet Microsoft is planning to charge a subscription instead of a flat charge. That combined with the technical challenge of implementing DirectX12 into existing architecture its rather unlikely GW2 will be seeing DirectX12 in the near future.
I mean it would be really cool to actually pull 60FPS in WvW zerg fights with high-end hardware and would solve most of the performance issues the game has. I’m using the Windows 10 Beta and the thing has a very Alpha feel to it. I have no idea on why they plan on releasing it this summer considering how unstable the operating system is.

Full of miss information.
Windows10 is not going to be a subscription, the OS AFTER Windows10 is going to be. Windows10 is actually quite stable, sure drivers are lagging behind a bit still but what do you expect for a preview release. I have had more Crashes in Windows8 and 8.1 then I have had in 10 so far. Though I am currently Running 7 on my main system.
The report said that Windows would be offered as a paid subscription service and Windows 10 users will not be able to freely upgrade to the operating system when it is released. With Microsoft still working on Windows 10, its Windows successor will not be launched anytime in the near future.

So I still see no difference in windows 10.
Oh yeah. I’m continuing as this is still not fixed.
I’m about to finish my exams so I will finally be able to play gw2 for a while.
So any new Idea? Or maybe Anet can post something about fixing this or something.
Just take a look at Witcher 3 {Almost everything on ultra. Mixed high/ultra}
Not feeling like i wanna lag as hell in the expansion.

I quit the game because of this. They obviously don’t care about the issue since it’s been like this for years. The only thing I regret is spending money on gems.
The game doesn’t care about how many cores you have =/= the game only uses one core.
Thats totally wrong .. it uses 4 cores, else you would never see much more then 25%
CPU utilisation in your task manager.

i use FX 6300. Overclock it to 4.4 GHZ and you will be fine
Welp. GW2 engine is lil bit silly… I mean before latest update I had 60 fps. now its barely can go up to 25 ~ with same settings.
Same happened 2~ years ago… And I could do anything about it.. what eventually made me just leave the game.
Tbh, it’s not just about that silly “amd” vs “intel”. There are many posts where ppl had like 60 FPS but update… after update… and next.. NOPE… ~35-40 FPS? What the hell ate 20 FPS? And why after 3 years UI still takes ~3-5?
( I’ve sensed that when was playing on laptop – had 35 in divinity… nope – update 25 ) .
So they CAN fix it. If they took fps away they can bring it back. Cmon srsly. Nothing changed graphically.
But no " we did nothing ". So here I am. Still bumping w8ing for some anet answer.
Bet many ppl would be glad to hear something about that fps missing.

Not thinking so.
Just happened that I’ve reinstalled system on my laptop and downloaded gw2 again (playing on same client since head start).
So I’ve used to have 30-40 FPS on mixed medium – high settings for example by just killing foes on low lvl charr zone. And now? Everything on low and ~24 FPS.
They are messing up this game.

Game still works fine for me. Just as it did a week ago,a month before then and so on.
So if it just keeps getting worse, that’s your fault.

the further we go with game, the worse it works. they just keep sticking more and more stuff on screen without doing anything with engine, and it kills graphic cards. my gpu is on constant 99% load on new map in beta, and i experience drops to 20 fps even without many ppl around (on old maps its constant 60fps with load at around 40-60%. fotm or dungeons i got stable 45+. it started getting worse with drytop, and even worse with SW. now it gets to the point of unplayable)
in gta online with full lobby in my sight range, i dont see fps going below 45 (with most settings maxed). witcher 3 stays around 40-60 most of the time (with mix of medium/high).
and ofc new specializations means even more glowing crap on screen, with 10 players around im not able to tell whats going on, there’s no point to even try looking at mob and trying to tell what itll do – just particle overkill. and still no particle slider.

I used to have horrible lag issues a few months ago. Originally I had a 4yr old iBuyPower, had 4GB of just generic RAM, an old i3 550, and an even older GPU (I have no clue what it was anymore). Originally GW2 ran at around 45 FPS, than the last year it took a massive hit. I was getting 12 FPS just watching other players. Looking at the ground I would get 45 FPS again. After 6 months of this I gave up. I reinstalled, cleaned my PC and did everything…not a single thing worked. I have a background in CS so I took a closer look at the parts. Come to find, my motherboard was failing, the CPU was somehow damaged. Soooo I dropped $1000 on an Asus Maximus Hero 7, an i7 4790k, 16 GB Fury X RAM, with a 120GB SSD for the OS, 800 watt PSU, with an HD Radeon 6870 (an older card, I know). I am now at 60fps…if I drop the textures a little I am more. So…maybe you should check your parts? Just my two cents.

Well then I will test Diablo 3 and eso which I’ve used to play on laptop as well, following that these game shuld run crappy as well now.
Thank You for answer
And [Zaw], guild mate got simiilar pc to Your and game works well so one big hell of unknow stuff is happening here.
I had the same GPU as you and had no problems
I’m totally stuck atm! No matter what i do nothing helps.
i use FX 6300. Overclock it to 4.4 GHZ and you will be fine
Can You post screenshot with:
-> In game settings,
-> While in LA,
-> Looking from Mystic forge at the place where Activity is,
-> Windowed fullscreen,
-> Running core temp on the screen ( wanna see Freq, You got ),
The only thing i SLOWLY start thinging about is getting better fan and overclock.
I’ve read that i can make it to 4.3 safely.
4.5→5 is water cooling.
But i would love to see someone with tuned fx6300 with above conditions.
Ofc I expect. 40-50 stable fps in la this way. Otherwise this is not worth overclocking at all.
