Q:
Hi, as the title says, Iv got an issue with my new pc rebooting randomly.
I know its not over heating, iv been motioning the temps.
It is overclocked, but i haven’t set it to overclock since I built it.
Im getting no BSOD when it reboots.
It only does this when gaming, such as GW2.
Am i right in guessing this is a PSU problem e.g i need a new one. This was the only thing i didnt upgrade since it was a 850w, but it is about 5+ years old.
Heres my specs:
- CPU: Intel Core i5 3570K 3.40GHz @ 4.50GHz Quad Core CPU
- Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V LX2 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
- RAM: Patriot Intel Extreme Masters 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Dual Channel
- Cooler: Prolimatech Megahalems CPU Cooler – Black w/x2 120MM Zaward Golf III Fans
-GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 660 Superclocked 2048MB GDDR5
-PSU alpha power ATX-850
Its all a fresh install with windows + gw2 on my new SSD and other bits on my 1TB HD

Hey Forbidden, you’re not the only one having this problem. I’m running relativly similar stats for my pc and I have been experiencing rebooting aswell. I’ve had a complete cleanout of my cpu for dust and re-installed both my videocard driver and GW2 game, and yet I’m still rebooting. I’ve had no problems before the April update. But since then, I’ve had reboots after reboots. I’m hoping A-Net can see if it’s a patch problem or if there’s a solution to this problem.
I sypathise with ya. I hope they figure it out soon.
Its a GW2 problem? Have they confirmed this?
Haven’t tried other games yet am waiting for them to D/L
Think you may be right in this, just played planetside 2 for a good couple of hours and no restarts. Will be testing it out on Assassins creed 3 later too
Can be heat…check your temps under full load when playing GW2 with HWmonitor.
Also disable the option for windows to shut down automatically,so you will most likely get an bsod instead and can see the error.
System/advanced settings/ – Uncheck Automatically restart
As i have already state on the original post, i have already checked all that
Believe iv solved it. Seems having the drivers up to date was a bad idea.
Rolled back my GPU to an older driver. Seems the latest 314.22 driver caused it to do this
EDIT: Spoke to soon, as soon as i posted this, reboot

Dd you run prime95 with your oc?
Check your event log for errors. It will tell you if it was power. Most likely your psu.
Yeah ran it for about 30 mins.
As for event logs all it says is things like
“The previous system shutdown at 22:09:42 on ?20/?04/?2013 was unexpected.”
“The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.”
Nothing as to what caused it :/
Right, noticed something even more strange. Not only does it only happen in GW2. But iv noticed only in LA. It has happened few other places, like the fire ele boss and the shatterer. But never happened in WvW running around in huge zergs….grr
It could be a “event41” error.
Click Start, Run and type eventvwr.msc
Select Application entry in the left pane
In the right-pane, look for the Error entry denoted by a Red X
Yeah thats what the
“The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.”
Is under, Event 41, Kernel power
It looks like it is your PSU then.
You have a nice system there, give it some love and get a quality PSU. 80+bronze at the very minimum and from a quality manufacturer such as Corsair, XFX.
