This has been going on since launch, and may have been an issue during the betas but I don’t remember it then. Every so often for no obvious reason my entire computer will freeze.
The first clue that it’s going to happen is a strange ticking noise playing along side the music. It sounds like a quiet clock but faster and almost sounds like it could be part of the music. Then sometimes I’ll notice the game freezing briefly, for no more than a second or two before going back to normal.
If I keep playing sooner or later the game will freeze. Any looping animations like charr tails and flames will keep going but anything else like NPCs or characters moving will be frozen and I can’t move, rotate the camera, open menus etc. The music will keep playing until it gets to the end of the track and then revert to a buzzing noise.
I can’t close the game down and ctrl+alt+del doesn’t work so I have to restart the computer. After that everything works perfectly. I can’t remember ever getting the same problem twice in a row.
It doesn’t seem to be related to what I’m doing in-game. I can play through a world boss with so many players and particle effects on screen that I can’t see what’s going on without a problem and then other times it’ll crash as I’m talking to one NPC in a quiet corner of a city. It doesn’t happen with any other games or programs (and only rarely with GW2 which is why it’s taken so long for me to look for a solution).
If anyone has any ideas on what might be causing it that would be really helpful. I know I haven’t given any specs for the PC but that’s because I’m not sure what would be relevant at the moment. If it would help I can include them.
