Hello,

My wife and I play GW2 with two computers that have the same exact specs. The game runs between 15 and 25 FPS on my computer and I never have lag spikes. I can play the game just fine I feel.

However, it is a different story with my wife’s computer. For some reason, her FPS runs a bit lower; between 10 and 15 FPS. She can still play with this but she will get these spikes of low FPS every now and then. Every half hour maybe… her FPS will drop somewhere between 1 and 4 which is definitely not playable. She just waits it out and when about 5 minutes passes, her FPS goes back to her normal 10 – 15.

What I don’t understand is why this problem exists for her computer and not mine.

Our computer specs from dxdiag:
Intel® Core™2 Quad CPU Q8400 @ 2.66GHz (4 CPUs)
3326MB RAM
Windows XP Pro
NVIDIA GeForce 9400GT

We’ve checked as much as we can as far as making sure the settings of everything is the same between the two computers.

Anyone have ideas on what our problem could be?

Are both Computers on SP3?Updated drivers for the video card? Also have you run any virus/malware scans? Can you attach both dxdiag or game advisor txt file?(Btw you can delete personal info on the txt file just need com specs and driver dates.)

Heat or bad stick of mem springs to mind. I would lean more towards heat as the problem resolves its self and doesn’t kill your computer. first thing is to blow out all the dust from your processor/video card make sure that all the fans are set to run at max. I know this will be loud just do it for testing purposes and see if her performance is better.

All CPU’s and GPUS are designed to slow down to save your hardware by lowing the clocks speeds so they generate less heat. Heat issue for me int he past have had me playing games with the case open sometimes a desktop fan blowing directly into the case.

On my current system I had to flip over my 210 MM side fan to pull the heat directly off the GPU as I had the same problem, once I flipped the fan over temperature on GPU and CPU both dropped by 15 degrees.

It is also possible that cleaning the heatsinks on the video card and the CPU is all that is needed depending on the air flow of your case.

I will also add that XP does not handle multi core processors correctly and the solution maybe to tell GW2 to run on one processor as opposed to all of them.

I dusted out both computers and we haven’t had any issues since then! lol.

In fact, we both have an extra 10 FPS in the game now.

Thanks for the help.
