Q:
Re-installing client in Mavericks fails...
A:
Okay, so after 6 days working with tech support, they were able to give me a suggestion.
I had to create a new account in my iMac and then I re-installed the client and it actually worked!
For some reason, something was corrupt in my old user account profile, so after creating a new account, the game is now installed.

Try deleting the GW2 application support folder. Also, did you do a clean install back to Mavericks?
Yes, it was a clean install back to Mavericks.
The Application Support folder for Gw2 never gets created during the first part of the install (the one screenshot I posted).

hey roamer
can you double click again and just give it 15 minutes? I know, sounds stupid but there has been a case I read, where the combination of “installation hung up” + “wait for a little while” came up. if the forums’ search function worked at all, I’m sure I could have double checked this info -_-
hope it works for you soon, with or without esoteric remedies.
just open a support ticket anyway so anet has it documented, the forums and mac community is largely being ignored or tried to appease to without any tangible results, unfortunately.

This is the same problem I have, didn’t do a clean install of mavericks, I just uninstalled GW2 and removed the GW2 application folder. It just sits there, looking at activity monitor, it doesn’t appear to be doing anything. I kept a backup of my GW2 application folder and once I copy that back, then it comes up just fine. Problem is, if your having issues with crashing, removing the GW2 application folder is one of the steps for resolving issues.
@Wayne – I actually use AppDelete to remove it and it actually cleans it completely.
@Michael – I’m going to try your suggestion and wait 15 minutes.
Luckily I can still play it using BootCamp though.
Very annoyed how forum support for the Mac client is nearly non-existent from ANet employees. In my opinion, if they knew they couldn’t come up with a native client, they shouldn’t have come up with a Windows emulated client…just sucks.
I have the same or similar problem. I deleted all GW2 data from my imac and freshly downloaded the client. Now when I start I get the GW2 icon in the task line, but the client does not start at all. Funny thing is that I can bring “all windows to the front” from GW and then see a blue screen the size of the client window when moving the mouse over the screen. I contacted support but they only told me my iMac does not meet the minimum spec. I know this but was happy enough with the performance for casual playing and don’t think the client should not start to even download the game data.
Any suggestions would be great – thanks a lot :-)

@florida what are the specs of your iMac out of interest? And are you running Mavericks?
I’m wondering if this has anything to do with the connection issues GW2 has been having. If the initial startup requires checking a server before doing anything (for instance, to download all the data since you’re re-installing) it could be timing out in the background. Hence why it looks to be hanging.
