First have you ever changed your account password or username in the past and is your account email is linked to any social networking that also includes forums and search engines….. this can be a back door hack or a jump hack

There are a lot of ways to hack a pc without leaving a trace… it counts on the hacker and the purpose of the hack

Also do you play on a Laptop or a Desktop and have you signed into your account off of any other computer.

During an early wave of bot bans a handful of accounts were caught by mistake, it takes a few days to sort the real appeals from the botters hoping to slip back in… but the explosion of angry posts in the Support forum and elsewhere made it look like Anet was performing brain surgery with a chainsaw. If more than a dozen people were to be affected by something like this, the kittenstorm on the forums would make you think that thousands were affected.

Unless you arena Anet employee you have no idea how Anet manages the game. I know I’m not an employee so I have no idea but maybe you work for them and have knowledge we don’t have? If you do please find out for us :-)

Why we are on the subject, if someone else gains access to your account, wouldn’t their IP show up on your Authorized Networks, or are their ways around that?

It was before phone authenticators and I didn’t play the game for months, so I didn’t change my password in regular basis like you should. One time I just found no items (got a rollback on my account from Blizzard), the other time when I came back my account was suspended for gold selling, so I contacted Blizzard and that was fixed as well
Really phone authenticators help a great deal with security!

1. because D/D eles got so much less powerful by having one skill on a longer cooldown that they could have used for movement on 40 sec cooldown in PVE. IT’s not that I can’t accept that change. IT’s just that the change for PVE seems illogical.
To be honest that patch ended up being more sane than they said it will be. The only real problems with it for me is the ability to continuously steal boons on a thief. You can literally spam that ability and use it 15 times in a row.
2. So it’s bad to add botters to your friends list when you see them appear to report them in? That’s a new thing for me! Oh I should stop reporting bots, after all it’s so unfair on those non humans!
3. You had to unscramble that guild’s name to even make it inappropriate. After the incident, unfortunately, most members fell victim to false reports. Some of them get banned almost on a weekly basis, one of them got banned for saying “donkey” to their friend on normal chat, some got their alternative accounts banned as well. So the person that made the topic, instead of just reporting the name in he thought was inappropriate made a huge amount of people unable to play the game. I do thin kthat they deserve defense.

Seriously? This guy hasn’t had one good word to say about the game ever – already quit, then came back gloating that his old account was still up with all its stuff – makes me suspicious of these shenanigans from the start. If that isn’t troll I smell, it’s somethin’ darn close.

Anet did not steal your stuff, guy, give them a chance to look into it.

And, for all your whining if someone did log into my character and steal all my stuff, you know what I’d do? I’d start earning new stuff; because that’s all it is. Not exactly this video, but close enough. Replace the girlfriend with a ninja that dropped in from your roof, an alien that just teleported in, or your pet turns into a werepet at full moon. Either of these are plausible explanations, and it could be all 3 at the same time. Do not blame Arenanet for it. You want a more complex explanation? You were drunk last night while playing and thought your character would look sexy without armor.

My sister had my GW1 password for 1 night, She spent 105 Ectos, 105 Obsidian Shards and a lot of Plat to get Obsidian armor for a character that has a total play time of 3 days 2 hours and 53 minutes to this date. Luckily for me, she is the one who now plays GW2 and I am the one spending her hard earned gold/laurels in GW2.

No, I am willing to believe it because it has happened before. Maybe not like this, but ANet is quite vigilant against botters and gold sellers and have, on many occasions, made huge banning mistakes which targeted many innocent people.

To me, a company that makes these kinds of mistakes, also would make the mistake of what the OP suggests.

It is also true that ANet will take your items/gold from you if you are caught buying gold – as there was a post about it at some point which I refuse to dig up. So, the idea that ANet would take items from a players also is not something new.

I use avast as well and I can tell you it doesn’t find everything. I also use a secondary app called IObit malware fighter. What Avast doesn’t find it does and eliminates it. Advanced systemcare is the all in one app that is from the same company.

It may not surprise you, but it doesn’t mean it actually happened…particularly the way stated. I’ve never seen anyone else say this happened. There are so many possiblities.

First of all, if Anet was rolling back an account, it wouldn’t strip a character. That’s not how it works. Secondly people like that get banned for a period anyway, which didn’t, apparently happen.

Third of all, there are a number of very real possibilities that have nothing at all to do with Anet, but you’d RATHER blame the company on a strangers word, because you have a personal BIAS. You’re not objective.

Objectively, it’s possible Anet went in, stripped his character and left everything else, except for one thing. It servers no purpose, not even as an anti-farming or botting measure.

So basically, as usual, you’re grasping at straws to indict a company you feel betrayed by.

I’ve been hacked before, in Guild Wars 1 actually, you know that game you loved, and it was a lousy feeling, And I lost EVERYTHING, not just the clothes on my back. If I’d only lost the clothes on my back, I’d have been a lot happier.

What you experienced was a roll back. That can happen, as has happened in many games. It happens because the main server doesn’t back up every single second, it would slow down the game too much. The server takes snapshots of what you have every so often. If the server happens to crash before the point of a backup, it’s record of what you have doesn’t match your record of what you have. It’s not fun, and it does happen, but I’ve never played any MMO that hasn’t experienced a roll back. I can’t tell you how many times I experienced a roll back in Rift.

What the OP is describing can’t be attributed to roll back. It’s not likely to be attributed to anti-farming stuff either as some say, because that makes no sense.

Logically there’s no reason for Anet to do this and there’s no way a rollback would have been responsible.

I’ve been hacked before, in Guild Wars 1 actually, you know that game you loved, and it was a lousy feeling, And I lost EVERYTHING, not just the clothes on my back. If I’d only lost the clothes on my back, I’d have been a lot happier.

I don’t understand not having a restore capability. It’s a basic principle of IT. A lot of people love to hate Blizzard, but they could restore toons, accounts and items. I hope GW2 eventually gets the capability as well.

Their friends changed their WoW password, and immediate reaction is “Fing Blizzard”. As you can clearly see from the 2 videos, Blizzard had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with them being unable to login.

The other day I was playing. A game patch kicked me out and I went right back in. I lost all the money, items, exp, ect that I had accumulated over the preceding 30 minutes. No big deal, I just did the hearts again. But, bugs and glitches like this do happen. It COULD be on Anets end. He could have been hacked. If he only scanned with Avast AV, well, lets just say that’s good ‘basic’ protection.

It could be a myriad of possibilities, but acting like a spoiled 4 year old isn’t going to get you very far.

What you experienced was a roll back. That can happen, as has happened in many games. It happens because the main server doesn’t back up every single second, it would slow down the game too much. The server takes snapshots of what you have every so often. If the server happens to crash before the point of a backup, it’s record of what you have doesn’t match your record of what you have. It’s not fun, and it does happen, but I’ve never played any MMO that hasn’t experienced a roll back. I can’t tell you how many times I experienced a roll back in Rift.

What the OP is describing can’t be attributed to roll back. It’s not likely to be attributed to anti-farming stuff either as some say, because that makes no sense.

Logically there’s no reason for Anet to do this and there’s no way a rollback would have been responsible.

Though ill agree, it’s way more plausible that the issue was probably on the user end from poor security practices.

Guild Wars 1 got it, but after I was hacked. Keep in mind when the game launched, it was a first product of a new IP…and it was ground breaking in many ways, but they had a MUCH smaller staff back then than they do now.

If the OP said, yeah my stuff is missing, I wonder if it’s a bug, that’s cool. Blaming a company without a shred of evidence (and he has not a shred of evidence) is simply wrong.

It’s a fact that Anet has banned people that feel into the botting pattern, absolutely. 100% true. Which has ZERO to do with someone logging in and finding stuff missing just from their person. Nothing at all to do with it. One has an easy to see cause and effect and one doesn’t.

So the bias here, is that you don’t like Anet and you’re willing to draw completely unwarranted conclusions from completely unrelated facts.

And if those people who were wrongfully banned contacted support, they had their accounts restored.

This looks to my untrained eye like a completely different issue. Wouldn’t you agree?

Banned clay, banned. They didn’t remove their belongings, they banned them. Having in mind that stripping a character nude has never been taken as a method against people that seemingly committed something wrong, most likely the OP is wrong. Yes, Anet is not always good, but they have never done this before, therefore it’s logical to assume that there’s a far more logical reason for it. Like, I don’t know, getting your account hacked?

I do think that most of the time, you try to be objective Vayne. But for a lot of forum readers, you come across as a champion among champions, but i don’t believe thats your intentions. I think it just gets interpreted that way. I know you like Anet, and that’s cool. I don’t agree with a lot of their decisions, but for now, I really like the game. When the next AAA MMO comes out, we’ll see.

I also agree that this is a good game that could be great……nay…….epic. But I personally feel that way too much emphasis is put on steering to the gem store and RNG. But that’s just me.

What would be ANet’s motive to “hack” OP of a few items? Is OP a known good spender in-game that ANet will assume OP will buy gems to trade for gold to get his items back? What made OP so special so that ANet would turn their attention on his account?

Just out of curiosity OP. Lets say that ANet says you were hacked, gives you a rollback, maybe even gives you proof that you were hacked. Will you put a post on this thread acknowledging you were wrong? Or will you just maintain a discrete silence and continue playing?
