On highest settings, I get 18 to 20 FPS in charr city
On performance settings, I get 28-30 FPS in charr city
On lowest everything, I still only get 31-32 FPS in charr city.
I play 1920×1080, and this is a brand NEW install as I just recently re-installed my PC. Everything is fully up to date for drivers and windows updates.
When I played at release (I had to buy GW2 again, I lost my old account, cd key, email and username/password…not a big deal)…I also got VERY low FPS. No matter the settings, from highest quality to performance my FPS was always low in this game.
I use CCleaner and everything is cleaned. Hard drives aren’t fragmented at all.
I have Geforce 660GTX 2GB
i5 CPU (its the really old oldest generation of i5 and it was rather crappy as I got an off-brand non-intel one…could this be why GW2 FPS is so low?)
no SSD drive
8GB DDR3 ram
Windows 7 64bit
Anyway I can make better FPS? I can’t buy a new CPU or any new hardware, because I’m really poor in real life and I lost my job a year ago. Haven’t been able to find another one yet, no one in my area is hiring at all. Once the medical laws from the president went through, everyone stopped hiring where I live. Can’t even get a fast food job (no mcdonalds/burger king here, its all family businesses where I live)…so I have no way to upgrade my PC at all since I can’t afford it.
On performance the game looks so ugly, and my FPS is still really low, so I just set it to highest quality for low fps but it looks nice.
Is there anything I can do to increase my FPS? I’d greatly appreciate any help Being stuck with a max of 30 FPS on lowest settings is really sad

And my FPS/framerate is uncapped in settings btw, I can look at the ground and it goes to 43 FPS…
But I get LESS FPS than my super modded high graphics Skyrim which I get 30-40 FPS with ENB and high-end textures. Dunno why its so low in this game.

It isn’t my internet connection either. Even though I live in a mountain city, I have a 1tb internet connection (its the google one) and its always really fast in every online game, multiplayer or MMO . We have good internet here.

Hey! I’m also having relatively terrible framerates with my i5 4690k + R9 290. Here are a couple of recent threads discussing this:
Low FPS 100% usage and minimal CPU usage
I still haven’t found a solution that works for me.

probably pcie issue.
1)Make sure you are using the gpu in the slot closest to the cpu,
2)reseat the gpu to check for dirty connections
3)set windows power mode to performance

Windows is already at performance. And I used driver booster and it found outdated drivers, so now my PC is 100% fully up to date.
Skyrim gets 50 FPS average with tropical mod installed (TONS of plants), with enb at Ambient Occulsion+Depth of field on
Witcher 2 I can play at max settings with ENB on
Elder Scrolls Online I can play max settings
Oblivion fully modded and looks better than vanilla skyrim (not as good as modded skyrim) I get 40-50 FPS
EVE Online I get max FPS
I also doing downsampling (think that is it)…at 3200×1900 on Witcher 2, EVE, Oblivion (not skyrim)
Every single game plays at max settings with some being downsampled with good FPS.
Only Guild Wars 2 out of all my games is at poor FPS no matter the graphic presets I do. The lowest possible settings give me 35 fps max in charr city.
So it isn’t my PC, I’m doing far higher end games and MMOs…even Age of Conan plays at 60 FPS at max settings with ENB+downsampling.
Why is GW2 the ONLY game with such poor fps for me? I really want to play, but the FPS is so poor.

Same issue for me.
All other games (Far Cry 4, Archage, etc , etc…) and even things like After Effects and Cinema 4D run perfectly, for games it’s very normal over 60FPS at all times.
With my freshly installed Guild Wars 2 i get tops 30FPS even with performance settings on.
For reference:
i7 5820K
16GB DDR4
GTX970
Not sure what is going on, all drivers are up to date.

Download GPU-Z, CPU-Z, and Coretemp. While running GW2 in a window open each of those programs.
On GPU-Z we are looking for usage/utilization on the GPU as well as Clock speeds and Temps. And for Bus Interface we need to know the PCIE link speed. It should say x16 v2 @ x16 v2. If it’s anything less that will seriously hurt performance.
On CPU-Z and CoreTemp we are looking at the Multiplier settings to make sure they stay at whatever its supposed to be for your i5. could be 28, 32..ect depending if your FSB is 100 or 200. Coretemp will tell you how hot your CPU is running. The peak temps should not be anywhere near 80c’s.

The temperature seems fine, I did it yesterday and it was in the low 30s.
It might be because my CPU is a i5 660 and its a really old one. But every other game plays fine…which is weird.

It seems its the amount of NPCs/players. In Charr city it goes down to 18 FPS on highest settings. In Ashford outside, its at 30-31 FPS but anytime a group of players is on the screen it drops to 20-23
My character settings are highest, cause its too lame to see invisible or low-res characters…very very immersion breaking. Though when I drop the two character settings, even in charr city, my fps goes past 30…but I refuse to play with low-res or invisible characters with lame nameplates with nothing under them. I’d rather not play at all.
None of the other settings do anything with FPS though, just 1-3 at most…but the two character settings rise FPS a lot.
(edit: even lowering resolution from 1920×1080 to 1680×1050, I only get 3-5 FPS more…lower more FPS, but looks really bad on my monitor and hurts my eyes at too low resolutions. My FPS issues come from amount of npcs/players, and the two character settings at lowest I get 35-40 FPS…but looks SO bad seeing nameplates floating around like some kinda horror movie lol)

So, I now get 40+ fps outside cities
Turned character limit to lowest, character quality highest
I also turned on windowed fullscreen which gave me 10 extra FPS
Still only 27-30 FPS in charr city though.

you have a really old cpu (clarkdale dual core) and this game is dx9 based. which means single threaded performance matters a lot more than in other modern games. your listed performance seems normal for that cpu.
downsampling increases the draw calls significantly (the performance bottleneck in dx9), so running native rather than downscaled will help also
