Q:

I replaced my motherboard the other day. I didn’t configure the HDD I was already using first, and now can’t boot from it. I reinstalled Windows on a new drive, using my old one as a secondary to access all my files. That’s also where my GW installation is, the old HDD now being used as a secondary. Every time I open the launcher, it starts downloading the game files as if it were a fresh install from 0%. I’ve tried running it without using a shortcut and going directly to the directory for the launcher, but it doesn’t help. I’ve tried searching everywhere for an answer on how to make this stop, but nothing yet. I don’t want to copy the game to the new primary HDD, it’s much smaller capacity. Any help with this would be much appreciated. Sorry I just realized I wrote a book.

Can you change the shortcut to say “D:\Games\GW2.exe” or whatever your secondary drive letter is, and whatever path/file location within said drive Guild Wars 2 resides in?

I’ve no idea, but that’s the thought I had.

Good luck.

I was running it from a desktop shortcut I made, but searched around and some people were saying that they had luck by opening the launcher from the actual filepath location. Thanks for the response! I’ve already tried that though.

If you continue to have difficulties, you can contact the Tech CS Team via the ‘Support’ link above/below and ‘Submit a Request’ for assistance.

Good luck.

(Or maybe Healix will see your post; he seems to be the resident expert on such things!) =) Might have something to do with GW2setup.exe and/or GW2.exe (or changing the one to the other and placing it where you want the game to launch from).

Just came across this. Can someone who knows tell me if this is what’s happening? And how to stop it anyway?

Dang forum, ate my post.

I don’t know if that 3 1/2 year-old post is still applicable. Usually when one stops the game file download, the percentage resets to 0, but the number of files to be downloaded is reduced.

Is your number of files to download small, such as the number associated with a patch, or the whole 25GB number of files?

No, it was around 970,000 or so when I glanced at it earlier.

Just create a new folder where you want to install the game.

Copy over the GW2.exe and the .DAT file to the new folder you created. Run GW2.exe and it’ll generate the bin folder and all neccessary files.

Game should work. If it doesnt, the issue is something else on your PC.
