I have a problem! yesterday I was playing normally and today when I walked in GW2 in the morning and so far, my FPS is only 4 and that on any map! All other games that have are normal!
Follow me settings:
Radeon software version – 15:12
Software Edition Radeon – Crimson
Graphic chipset – AMD Radeon R9 280X Series
Size of memory – 3072 MB
Memory Type – GDDR5
internal clock – 1000 MHz
Windows version – Windows 7 (Service Pack 1)
System memory – 8 GB
CPU type – AMD FX™ -8350 Eight-Core Processor
It never happened! And like a help of Anet as have other complaints here at the Forum of others!

The game used to run very smoothly on high graphics, but lately I’ve been having horribly bad FPS in certain areas. My average FPS used to be, and still is in some remote areas (like Wayfarer Foothills) and personal instances, between 50 to 60. But if I head to for example HoT areas or Orr, it instantly drops to 10-20, even on the lowest graphic settings. Ping is about 70-90. The FPS will get a bit better (30-40) if I glide for example at the bottom level of the Verdant Brink, where the pulsing vines are.
The problem only occurs in Guild Wars 2. Other games, like Shadow of Mordor, Skyrim and Dragon Age: Inquisition, run perfectly fine.
I gotta admit I’m not really that experienced talking about computer specs, but as far as I understand, my build should run the game riddiculously easy (please do correct me if I’m wrong!). According to the task manager, there’s no stress on any part while playing the game. The CPU and memory run at and below 30% and the disc occasionally rises there as well, usually running at 0-10%. There’s no overheating problems and the computer is clean inside.
My specs are:
Intel® Core™ i7-4770 CPU @ 3.40GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770
16 GB
Microsoft Windows 10 (build 10586), 64-bit
I’ve tried googling for the same problem and found numerous ways people have tried to fix this, but nothing seems to work for me. This includes reinstalling GW2, deleting the local.dat file, disabling the UI, lowering collision slider, repairing the laucher, updating drivers, configuring NVIDIA control panel and unparking CPU.
the appdata file of Guild Wars 2 does have 6 “Corrupt-xxxxxxx.dat” -files in it. I couldn’t find any information about them, so I didn’t dare to delete them. Could this help? Or make the situation worse?
Does anybody have any more suggestions I could try?
I’d be really grateful for any tips!
Fundor, If you could download GPU-Z and take a screenshot like this (without CPU-Z for now) and upload it.
Many times the problem is the PCI-E Bus Link Speed isnt going into x16 mode from its idle state of x1/x4.
Reseating the GPU usually helps if that’s the problem.
Hey man I’m also running a GTX970 and had very low fps after the patch but deleting my Gw2.tmp file did the trick.
Thanks for the tips so far!
Here’s the screenshot.
Deleting the .tmp file didn’t work for me. Haven’t yet done a GPU reset, I’ll probably try that next, tomorrow.
Here’s a screen of the sensor’s tab.
It does look like the GPU is working crazy hard to run the game, am I right? So this might actually be the cause of the problem?
(The little gap there is gliding to the bottom of Verdant Brink, dropping, dying and laying there :’D)
We want your’s to say x16, not x4. This will remedy your situation.
You may need to re seat it in correct slot or alter a Bios option.
I'm including a link of mine. (please ignore all but the "

Maze is correct.
I believe re-seating your GPU will solve your woes, Fundor.
By the way, is that FRAPS you’re using to monitor FPS/record?
It’s terribly resource intensive compared to newer, h.264/265, options like MSI Afterburner and Shadowplay.

Hi, I have a smilar problem like OP.
But GPU load is only 30% and CPU load 20% but in game I have 10 fps…
any help gor me please?

Your’s may say PCIE 2.0 at the start, and that would be fine as well. It’s the x16 at the end that we want to change.

in what we have to change? We have this problem only with GW2
I’m also having fps problems with GW2, but it started yesterday afternoon, before that it was running ok (arround 30-40 fps except big cities, etc… but that wasn’t a problem), now it barely go over 20 fps anywhere – I’ve tried changing thw graphics for “best performance” but it cahnges just a little bit (arround 5 fps).
And I hadn’t done nothing differently to my computer.
Here’s my specs:
- Intel Core i7 960 Bloomfield
- Placa mãe Gigabyte X58A-UD3R
- 8GB RAM
- ATI Radeon HD 6900 Series (http://www.techpowerup.com/gpudb/405/radeon-hd-6950.html)
It’s old but I’ve never had any problems with most games until now.
Also, I don’t know why, but it’s GPU Core Clock and GPU Memory Clock are reaching it’s maximum capacity even while I’m writing here with nothing more open (except avast) – http://gpuz.techpowerup.com/16/01/31/52j.png

Problem solved! Re-seating my graphics card did help! After checking the installation and doing some googling I realized it was seated in the second PCI E lane, which could only work at x4. I did have to move my SSD and hard drive out of the way too though, as they were the reason it wasn’t seated in the first lane already. Now it’s running at x16 and the game works wonders.
Oh and the FPS monitoring was done through Shadowplay!
Thank you so much for the help!

Your GPU is also not going into its full x16 speed. Make sure its in the PCI-E slot closest to the CPU and re-seat it if you haven’t already.

Your GPU is running at x1 instead of x16, that will cause a massive fps issue. If during your cleaning you didn’t reseat your video card, or ensure it’s in the correct slot, you might want to try that.
went from 96fps , EB 20-30fps Battles down to 8fps since patch

Tomorrow I’ll try to change the slot that the video card is inserted.Update: I changed the slot and now is running at 8x, which is a huge difference, but now it’s freezing while gaming, arround 10-15 min. after starting the game the screen just freezes, but I can still move the mouse but I have to turn off always. Any idea? Could this be relationat to the power supply? Is there any way to check if it is?
Thanks in advance

GPU isnt terribly bottlenecked by lane speed anymore and now it starts freezing after 10-15 mins?
Taking into consideration the HD 6900 series is going on 6 years old, it very well could be overheating.
Since you have GPU-Z installed. Play for as long as you think you can before the freeze, 5-10 mins should be fine, and take a screen shot of the sensor tab to show its temperature.
I know the HD6000 series with the stock blower style fans were hot runners…

About 5 months ago game was running on medium/high settings with ~40 fps. Now it’s running 3-25 fps on lowest settings! No matter if I’m in town or looking into sky… fps are always low. Newest drivers installed. I’ve tried to install old drivers but not helped.

Please refer to this thread.
Check with GPU-z if your GPU runs @16x .. if not, reseat GPU.

If that is not the problem, delete your local.dat file.
I have a similar problem, I used to play on my old Asus laptop at max graphics with no problem, at least 60fps all the time. Sadly that was a few years ago, I recently got a new desktop and I loaded GW2 after it became F2P so I could help some of my friends who wanted to start a character for the first time.
Long story short my hex-core cpu and Titan X can’t run this above 43FPS on lowest graphics, something is very, very wrong. The only time this rendering beast has gotten lower than 60FPS on anything is Star Citizen on Very High graphics. (I do graphics work, so I needed a rendering machine. That’s the excuse I tell myself at least)
Hopefully someone finds a fix or at least a cause for this.

Ok it’s running @ x1 How to reset it ? Or change to x16 ?
not reset, Reseat
meaning take out video card and put it back in (when pc is off and disconnected from mains ofc)
updating video driver could also help im lots of cases..

ach sorry ^^ I’m not english so i may make some mistakes ^^ ok after unpluging and pluging i have x8 and fps are ~40 like 5 months ago Thanks very much
I have been playign GW2 since it went free and got myself HoT expansion, stopped blaying a couple months ago. However, now that I decided to return with the update, I created a new human character and noticed the game was extremely choppy. After a while, I tried to log into one of my older characters and saw how the game flowed in between 20-10 FPS, something that never happened to me before.
I tried changing the graphic setting all over and still, the same choppy results.
Sometimes when launching GW2, the game gets “stuck” at roughly 15 FPS, no matter what settings I’m using — lowest across the board, 15 FPS. Max settings, 15 FPS. Same everywhere in the game world. CPU, GPU and memory utilization are low/medium.
Win7. i7-5820k, NVidia GTX970, 16gb memory, decent sized SSD. Many other modern games run at 100+ FPS.
Often this can be fixed by restarting the computer, but that’s a pain in the rear. Any suggestions?
Sounds exactly like the PCI-E x1/x4 bug.
But I’m going to suggest downloading GPU-Z and taking a screenshot like this (ignore CPU-Z)
I’m betting your Bus Interface is sticking in the powersaving PCI-E x1/x4 mode when it should go x16 or at least x8 in certain situations.
If it does show x1/x4, take your GPU out of the slot and put it right back in. Make sure its seated firmly.
GW2 is giving me good framerate when my settings are set to medium, but otherwise, it’s giving me like 40fps. Not sure why. Brand new PC with the following specs:
AMD FX-8350 4GHz 8-core
MSI Radeon R9 390 8GB
8GB RAM DDR3-1600
Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 ATX AM3+ mobo
Samsung 850 EVO SSD
EDIT: I get perfect performance in other games, like The Witcher 3, so I doubt it’s a PCI-E slot issue.
It’s your CPU, AdelaisAer.
GW2 thrives more on Single Threaded Performance/IPC than anything else.
And AMD is well known to be much weaker than intels.

It’s your processor. It’s about 3 years old now market wise. I can get about 50 with that one, which I’m happy with.

Looks like it’s fine to me, but you may be able to see something out of that that I don’t.
Well, if he have those configurations he should be getting at least 30 fps.
What brought me to this thread is that I have:
Processor: Intel i7-4500U
Graphics: AMD HD 8600M
RAM: 8GB
OS: W7 (only for games, so no such thing as hao123)
and I’m getting 11 FPS at Verdant Brink AT LOWEST SETTINGS!
I was using the setting the command line argument -forwardrenderer and it was fine.
The FPS wasn’t better than 18 with FXAA and Render Subsample (so the game isn’t horrible), but the responsiveness was a lot better!
Now I can’t even play!
I think that ArenaNet shoud think about improving performance, not decreasing.
It’s so frustrating…
Edit: I don’t know if they updated something or it’s because I ran the -repair, but it’s working again.

UPDATE: Restart of the computer is not required. I simply have to restart the game 1-2 times every time I start playing until it starts “properly” and I get a solid 60 FPS instead of being locked at 15. Still dunno what’s causing it, but it seems to be on the client software side.
Ok.. at my wits end here. Haven’t played GW2 since maybe November 2015 due to my busy work schedule. Thought I’d update today and hop in game to enjoy some tyria and once I hop into a HoT map, I get TOPS 10 FPS. If I go to a vanilla map, I am up to 60 FPS. My graphics are set to low as they can go on the HoT map and I still only get up to 10FPS. If I look at the ground, I can jump the FPS up, but other than that— no dice. The game is unplayable. I had no issues back in November, so I’m not sure what’s going on.
I’ve read this thread and saw the many helpful posts. Most importantly running GPU-Z and if the graphics card isn’t running at x16, then you need to reseat the card. I’ve done that 3 times now and mine consistently reads out as x2.
Any ideas on what’s going on here guys? I really just wanted to enjoy GW2 today on this snowy crappy day lol.

edit; Alrighty, so I was able to get it up to x8 by switching it to a different PCIe slot… I can’t get it up to x16… What could be preventing this? :\ I am actually getting some ok ish frame rates now. I’ve at least hit 20 FPS in HoT, so it’s playable.

The original slot might have been the correct one. The PCIe slot that would be the x16 one is the one closest to your cpu. It could have been dusty or the card just needed to be reseated.

my game near unplayable I just login for my daily now that all I can do. I just going through some of the suggestions on this post see what works, it all trail and error at moment. my issue started with balance patch back in jan. I never had an issue like this before and other games all work fine just guildwars 2 a pain.
Nightmare, if you could download GPU-Z and then take a screen shot of Gw2 running with GPU-Z in the foreground, like this it would help me rule out a common problem with the GPU Bus Interface Speed.
Edit: Nevermind, just saw your reply in the other thread. It’s your CPU bottlenecking you.
Though why its performing THAT badly, I can only assume due to Bloat on your system.
(edited by MrFayth.3546)
it ok and fixed now, was the cool and quite mode on the bios.
the mode meant to lower the cpu output when not running high demanding programs but for some reason stopped detecting guildwars 2 when it running but was detecting other games fine. so just disabled the mode and all working great again
posting in multi threads hoping the info spotted more to fix others issues
