Hi, since a few days I get every 10-20 minutes when I’m online a whisper from a gold seller from I AM A GOLD SPAMMER. PLEASE REPORT ME BY PRESSING THE REPORT FLAG ICON IN THE BOTTOM RIGHT OF THIS POST!.com. I report them immediately for ‘gold selling’. I did this with the first gold seller and hoped it was over, but it wasn’t. Right now I get every 10-20minutes a whisper from strange names (something like Hgerssg and more from those random stuff) and they keep coming… I interference me so much on this that I reported every gold seller like 5 times….. and no ban on them. Right now I even start recognizing the same names whispering me… so often I get spammed by the gold sellers. Could you please look fast to these reports?
I don’t know if you can search all chat to find them, but the exact message is (from another gold seller 3 min ago):
Welcome to I AM A GOLD SPAMMER. PLEASE REPORT ME BY PRESSING THE REPORT FLAG ICON IN THE BOTTOM RIGHT OF THIS POST!.com

Note that this is always the same message AND that the : at promotion : 12%, isn’t a normal :, but the dots are little * instead of .
The last guy whispering me this morning 1 minute after I logged in: Hgerssg
Could you please do something against those gold sellers? I’m getting tired from them.
Thanks!

Hello… I can’t even make a post about being spammed by gold sellers every 20 minutes. When I created the topic and posted my thing it changes the message with that everyone should report me because i’m one of them.
Could you please look very very very fast to the reports from the gold sellers??? They spam my whole chat full, everytime other names.
ANet tends to get rid of bots in game by batches. Just keep blocking and reporting.
I am very sorry for your frustration. I routed your entire note to a team to have them review the situation. I confirmed that we are working on a better system of blocking in-game spam, but I’m also checking to see if our staffing levels are appropriate for dealing with this issue.
I can tell you that in-game reports do reach us and are singularly helpful in allowing us to zap those #(*%& spammers. So if you can report, and don’t mind doing so, you’re not whistling into the wind — the reports definitely help!
Let me add my two cents and have seen this as well back during the trial month. Spammers who post in map, once a minute for a website that deals in gold selling in LA, I reported them, went about my game playing and when I returned to LA about two hours later, same player, same spam, once a minute.
Now I understand during trial periods that it’s whack a mole with these guys since another account is free so it’s kind of pointless since it’s likely they had other accounts ready to go if the ban hammer came down but they can’t have infinite number of accounts. Even if it’s only for a couple of minutes it would at least feel like something was being done to stop them. I would still put this lower on the queue than actual abuse/poor language choices but it’s pretty open and shut.
Just do what I do Report, Block rinse, repeat. And when I’m feeling saucy, I just block THEN report.
I know and I do but this is a perception problem for ANet if the GMs appear not to crack down on a player when the chat log is open and shut. Not asking for a GM controlled reaper to appear and harvest the offending spammer but it’s analogous to calling the police about the neighbor’s loud stereo. It’s obvious that it’s too loud since I can hear it from my property (large lots not postage stamp ones or connected) yet the music doesn’t get turned down. It makes you doubt the effectiveness of reporting anything if something so obvious appears to be ignored.
That’s my point. If we see GMs handling a trivial problem like this, it gives the playerbase confidence that the GMs can handle worse problems.
As I mentioned, we will look into the situation on a couple of levels to make sure that we’re doing as much as we can to stem the tide of spammers. It’s not just spammers, we know that a lot of the accounts being used to spam are stolen from legitimate players, so it’s like a Double Whammy of Badness.
In the end, while we may never be able to beat back the ocean, we will do our best to put up quite a few breakwaters.
