Guild Wars 2

I seem to remember reading something about this but can’t find it now for the life of me.

In the Mac Client, on a late 2012 MBP 13", the graphics look horrible. It looks like I’m running the game at a really low resolution, however the settings are set correctly, and text and menu’s (eg inventory) look perfectly crisp. Everything else is really blurry, with jagged edges. I’ve also tried setting to max allowed settings.

Now, before people say it’s the hardware not being up to scratch, it runs perfectly in Windows 7 and 8 using bootcamp with the same settings.

So is there something I need to change? Or is this not possible to resolve, and I should just keep using bootcamp, or is this something ANet are working on? I assume it’s something to do with Cider?

This isn’t really a massive issue, as I have a gaming rig, but the only thing I use bootcamp for on my MBP is GW2, so would be nice to do away with it :P

(I work in IT, so I’m somewhat of a computer expert, however, I’m no where near an expert with Mac’s from a technical software point of view, so idiot proof instructions/explanations would be appreciated)

By late 2012 you mean retina 13" ? What resolution you set in game settings?

It sounds like you have sub-sambling enabled. I forget the exact name for the setting, but on the Graphics page of the settings there’s a dropdown that I think is labeled Sampling with three options: sub, native, super. If everything else is crisp but the world looks bad I bet this is set to sub-sampling.

I’ve got the same mbp (Unless you got the Retina model) and I am not experiencing the same things you are.

Ceribis has it right. Look for the option “Sampling” in the graphics settings, make sure it’s not set to ‘sub-sampling’.
‘Supersampling’ is most likely too demanding for your hardware, so leave it at normal.

No it’s not the retina model, and as mentioned, the resolution is fine because the menu’s and UI are fine (I forget what resolution but its on max).

Edit: spec is same as SpyderBite’s but with 4GB RAM.

Will check the sampling option though and report back. From memory I don’t think I’ve checked that so thank you for the suggestion!

Just be careful. You may want to set it to Native if your performance goes too far down.

Yeh I actually set it to Native shortly after posting. Considering how small the screen is it makes no difference visually, but does help with performance.

Actually, the game looks pretty kitten good. The problem is that the client is in beta and you can’t turn the graphics up to enjoy that. Hopefully in time it will get there.
