My PCI-e card is plugged in the right slot, I got all the Win7 updates and my graphics card drivers are up to date. I can run games like BF4, ESO and D3 on max settings getting at least 30+ fps.

My specs are:
Intel i7 4770 3,4 ghz
XFX Radeon 7970 3 gb
16 gb ram

And, I installed GW2 on my SSD disk .!

I dont understand why I get 10-20 fps on GW2.
Is there anyone out there playing GW2 on max settings with 30+ fps?
If so, what is your PC specs?

Am I doing something wrong, or is GW2 just incredibly demanding?

Thanks for reading!

Use GPU-Z to determine if your card is operating at the correct PCI-E width. I discovered after I moved that frames were in the 15 to 20 FPS range, while before my R7 260x gave me 60 FPS all but the most demanding situations.

When I looked at the bus interface for my graphics card I found it was running only on x2 width. setting the computer on it’s side so that the graphics card points straight up, then re-inserting the card fixed the problem.

Basically you want to make sure your video card has the full x16 PCI-E lanes to work with.

Thank you for replying!

According to GPU-Z 0.8.0 my PCI-E 3.0 × 16 is currently running at 2.0 × 4. I got the MSI B85 G43 motherboard which has two PCI-E 3.0 × 16 slots. My card is installed in the bottom one.

I find it weird that my 7970 card would in any way be inserted wrong, when I get great performance from games such as Battlefield4, Diablo3 and Elder Scrolls Online.

BUT, could be though..
So, I will try anyway to re-insert the card, then post an update.

GPU always have to be installed in the PCIE slot closest to the CPU. Move the GPU and it should work correctly.

Thanks a lot, will do that asap and report back.

EDIT: Oh man, it made a huge difference. Guild Wars is now running smoothly (60+ fps) at high settings.
