Hello,

I´m not sure on how to describe this or what the issue might be. Ever since the last update, post November 2012, i had and still have this sound problem with the game.

The game suddenly loses “focus” on the sound part, sound is gone and i only get an annoying “PiEP-PiEP” out of my left headphone /speaker.

I have to restart the client to fix that. The SPU has it´s own power supply/connector and to be frank never had any issues with t, not with GW2 or any other application until this or last weeks.

Not sure if that matter, but since im in Wv3 all the day and listening to some Music in the background, well something must cause this “crash”.

Thank you in advance
Kyma

I have that very card — the DX, not the DX2 which is more common. I’m not having issues. Your issue sounds like a sound card driver crash to me.

I’m using windows 7 x64, and in the Device Manager windows tells me that the ASUS Xonar DX Audio Device is running driver version 7.12.8.1775 date 9/23/2009. (I knew I was running an old sound driver but that’s older than I thought! But never having any issues with sound on any game I’ve not been messing with it).

I have played CDs using windows media player at the same time as running the game, but not very much. You might want to experiment with a different player and see if that makes any difference.

I hope you find this info at least a little useful.

That error occurs with all types of sound cards, not only with the Asus Xonar DX.

Rootcause of the problem is not the sound driver crashing, it’s a bug in the Guildwars 2 sound engine. I don’t know what triggers the bug, but i suspect it’s a special combination of sound effects which breaks the engine.

I had the same problem, setting my sound quality to one notch from maximum made it go away for me at least.

Have a Xonar DX as well, running the latest drivers. One time it would reliably happen is during the Claw of Jormag fight, seemed to happen almost every time.

Have to admit, that i´m currently using brainbit mod-driver for my Asus Card. Maybe this and the issue (apparently) of the sound/engine, might be the cause for the problem.

44.1Khz is set to default, heard there are some offline games that won´t even launch if the output of the card is higher than 44.1Khz.

I´m going to re-install the “old-asus” driver, just to see if it´s a driver error or not.

Thanks.

This issue has been bug reportet for at least a month but nothing is being done to adress it.
Like meantioned, lowering the sound quality one ot two notches from max setting will stop it from happening.

Well, not sure what you mean by a notch. Master volume is set to about 65%, never changed that in months… at 44.1Khz.
