So a few days ago my laptop took a crap and I am now in need of a new computer. I have limited funds and may have found something within my budget. I know next to nothing about computer hardware. I just want to know if it will give me the same performance or better than what I was running. My current computer is 2.66Ghz Intel core i5/ 750GB hard drive/ 4GB Ram DDR3/ Mobility Radeon HD 6370 graphics card. And I’m looking at a desk top with AMD FX-4130 3.8Ghz quad core/1TB HDD/ 8GB DDR3/ NVidia GeForce GT610 graphics card. Currently I was able to get 35-45 with upwards of 60 in most maps and 20-25 in WvW during most fights with very little lag except big Zerg vs Zerg fights. Any help would be appreciated.

The desktop you are looking at will give you significantly worse performance than what you were previously using. Look for anything with an Intel Core I series processor, preferrably at least Ivybridge which every processor in the line will have four digits, the first one starting with a 3 to tell you that it is generation three for Ivybridge. Anything beyond that is also good because it’s current, and something maybe at least a Nvidia GeForce GT 620 and the performance will be better than what you had.

what model laptop?

You can probably get a new motherboard for it pretty cheap….

Desktop: 4790k@4.6ghz-1.25v, AMD 295×2, 32GB 1866CL10 RAM, 850Evo 500GB SSD
Laptop: M6600 – 2720QM, AMD HD6970M, 32GB 1600CL9 RAM, Arc100 480GB SSD

I had a hp pavilion dv7 4269wm and am looking at the Cybertron Borg-Q. I have no funds to purchase outright so have to use my amazon store card. So I am very limited with what I have to choose from. Looks like anything around $600 or less on amazon.

that is a very old laptop.

Just by a quick search, you can customize the laptop to take a 2nd gen Intel CPU and have a Nvidia 650 or AMD HD6770 GPU for about 139(MB) and 200(CPU).

So to repair your laptop and have it be adequate again your look at 300~.

You can buy a new ‘refurb’ laptop from ebay/amazon for 350 (look for the DV6 CTO Editions, youll want a Llano Laptop so you can overclock the CPU), DV6Z-6c00, or DV6t-6100 should be in that price range.

Or you can build a proper desktop for about 450~

H97/H87 Motherboard (70)
G3220 (40~ OEM tray from Amazon)
Evo 212 Cooler (35~)
2×4GB DDR3 1333mhz Ram (50~)
HD7790/R7-260X (99-119~)
240G SSD (99bucks)
Case+ PSU (ranges 100-150 for a decent setup)

But thats doing all the leg work yourself, the build the install, tweaking and dealing with faulty parts.

Tip: If you go with building a tower, never cheap out on a PSU. Never go for anything that does not have an 80+ certification.

Not to mention I don’t think that spec list needs the Evo 212. I mean, it’s a Pentium processor. It doesn’t need it. Switching from tray to box is more beneficial

212 evo isnt needed. But the box’d G3220 is 80+ while the tray can be got for 39 from amazon. I have seen 212’s for as low as 23 on sale. its a good Heatsink and will support the entire haswell line up to 4.4Ghz.

So thats why I suggest it.
