Hey guys I just have a question. I’m going to be moving soon, and at my new place the only thing available is a satellite connection. I know in general it’s not good for gaming because there’s a natural delay with it going to space and such, but the only other option would be dial up and that is out of the question.

So I was wondering if anyone had a satellite connection, and if the game is playable or not on it.

It wouldn’t be playable – satellite has about a 1 second ping time.

There is another way, if you have a 3G or 4G cellphone. Most cellphone services these days have internet. You may need to change the plan though.

Of course, you’ll need to get the correct one that works with your cellphone provider.

Cool that’s good to know. The plan has 10mb down and 2mb up, so speeds not a problem. Was just worried I’d lag too much because of ping.

Also if I use a third party system like WTFast would that help at all?

No need to worry. From what I’ve seen, the cellphone method has pings comparable to cable.

Yeah, those speeds are fine. Online games use very little bandwidth – it’s the latency that’s important.

Edited to add: You shouldn’t need a third party system. Cellphone data transmission is plenty fast.

I actually got better speeds/ping over a 4g modem through Verizon than dsl through verizon in my area. I was raiding and using vent and it was better than my dsl in Australia even. I think it gets better speeds/ping/latency than my current cable connection too.

You can buy an individual Internet plan, but you save more bundling it with your phone service I think.
