Long story short: Selling high level weapons at wholesale price is how I make my living in this game. After trading my 200g Hammer “The Colossus” to what seemed to be a well mannered gentleman just a few minutes ago however (he was actually in a guild called Gentleman or something lol), he immideatley took the loot, switched to overflow server and blocked me…

Feeling hopeless for having good faith in our community, it leaves me wondering if there is even a fix to this issue? COD would be great but even still, do people who have this issue ever get their items back?

I submitted a report but the sum of which allows you to feel rather unsatisfied. “The Gm team MAY submit a review”?? To which his account MAY be banned? Just seems like a lot of work for a team that could be doing other things if we had a COD system in place. They could still tax it for a gold sink, just not as heavily.

Either way, that was my biggest sale and I guess its back down to my 20g bank account now… His name is {EDIT TO REMOVE NAME] by the way so, watch out. He apparently does this often so Im hoping to find some justice on this forum.

As far as I know, they don’t offer any support for mail trades. So no, you aren’t getting the item back. And yes they should have a COD on mail, there should be a trading channel as well, people may not like that sort of thing but given how map chat in lion’s arch is just spammed with LFG, seeing ISO or FT isn’t going to be that big of a deal.

I have no idea why they got rid of the trade window and have no COD on mail, it’s not going to combat gold sellers any, it only opens users up to scams.

Is it better to out-monster the monster or to be quietly devoured?

If that be the unfortunate case, then I will have to reconsider this game. Being punished for trusting someone is an injustice indeed…

They have a trading post for a reason, to avoid just this type of problem.
If you use the mail system instead of the trading post, your really on your own. All you can do is submit a report. Threatening to quit the game because you got scammed after you refused to use the ingame trading post that was put there for your protection in the first place? Sorry, no sympathy from me on that one.

Use the trading post in the future. Going outside of the supported/provided method of trade means you have to settle any disputes among yourselves.

Some people do not like that the TP takes a cut, but the alternative is a lot riskier as you have discovered.

What I highly don’t understand is why you would ever trade something that expensive via through mail.. I would have NEVER done that… You should never trust any random player. Seriously this is your fault, don’t point fingers at others.. If he couldn’t have just bought it via the trading post then just find another person that’ll buy it. I understand that there should be some sort of trading, but basically it’s all done via trading post now. Like seriously.. I think you learned a valuable lesson here..

Avoiding the tax cut and a wholesale discount for the consumer are obvious reasons why someone would not use the TP, I figured that much to be obvious.

I also take no shame in trusting someone who seemed to be trustworthy. It was afterall, an act of faith and not of naitivity. It is unfortunate that it turned out the way that it did but never in 1000 renditions of this scenario would I ever put myself in the wrong. The “finger” that I assume you are reffering to is being pointed at the only culprit in this instance, the one who took the loot and ran lol. I figured him the obvious villian and thus did not explain my logic.

The TP is not there for our protection, that would be a COD feature. The TP is obviously there to trade primarily but its secondary function is a gold sink to level out the economy. 12g tax cut is huge on a sale when you only have 14g in your savings to begin with. A win-win situation where both the client and consumer are to benefit is anything but “dumb”.

What then when they implement a COD function maybe 5months down the line or so? Do the victims of honorless trade get to say “I told you so” and get our posessions back? Doubtful but obviously unfair. I have made no commitment to this game of which to “quit” from so if there were any considerations to be made, it would be based off of the ethical value of Anets trading system, not the guilt trip opposed by the thus far “community” that I’ve been show in this post.

Who knows how long and how much effort people really put into getting the things that they have, its disrespectful to disregard their efforts in -your- game Anet…

The Trading Post was implemented primarily to offer an efficient, broad, and safe means of trading. One of the primary benefits of using the provided system is the protection of players from scams, cheats, and abuse.

Players may elect to use other means to trade, but doing so is risky, and we are not able to offer to resolve disagreements related to private arrangements.

Since I know player to player trading is excluded for some reason that has not ever been told to us, I’ll resist from asking questions about it.

That being said, what’s the point of reporting for scamming, then?

If we can establish enough details, we will take action on the account of the scammer. We will not get in the middle of the transaction by plucking off the item and giving it back to the other person involved in the private transaction.

Again, there is a very strong and solid reason for the development of the Trading Post, and all the issues mentioned in this thread can be addressed by using it.

If someone promises to pay you for something you mail them and then does not, will the GMs act to return the item and (perhaps) discipline the scammer?

The reason I ask is that a guildie just found a buyer for his Dusk and could not afford the TP fee to post it for a secure trade. A bit of discussion ensued about how to manage a secure trade without the trading post. I thought the GMs would probably rectify the situation if the guy did turn out to be scamming him, but might take up to a week.

One person offered to loan the TP fee. Low and behold, the buyer backed down. He would only trade via mail. Very suspicious. So, what to do?

They won’t return the item. They’ll just direct you to use the TP in the future. As far as punishing the scammer, your guess is as good as mine.

If I recall past instances correctly the scammer will be punished in some way but your item is lost.

Use friends that trust you to loan you the money to post the item on the TP. If the buyer is legit then the sale happens quickly and you can pay your friends back quickly, if hes not legit likely someone else will snatch up the item and you can pay your friends back then, worst case scenario using the TP is that you have to farm or earn money in other ways to pay your friends back but thats nowhere near as bad as losing a precursor weapon or huge amounts of $$.
