Hi, I’ve come back after a long absence to see the new season 2 and am having issues unlocking it.

The season two was in my story journal but both episodes where showing us unlock by gems only. I thought maybe you had to have the previous episode for it to count and while buying the first let me activate season two in my journal the second episode remains buy only.

Followed some of the advice in other posts and cleared mail .. nothing in TP anyway soo. do I have to complete some of these initial story missions first?

If you entered the game after reset yesterday (Monday), you will have missed the window for the free unlock for Episode Two.

The window lasts until 00:00 UTC of the Tuesday for the next Release. So, there will always be a short window between the end of the free period for one release and the patch of the next release.

It is similar to when the Monthlies change. It is always at 00:00 UTC of the first of the month, which is often several hours ahead of when midnight occurs elsewhere in the world.
