I just got an email from NCsoft saying my account had been accessed from japan or something. I attached a screenshot of this. Does this mean they stopped it or my account was actually accessed? What do I do?

That is a phishing email, and they are hoping you will follow the link and give them all your log-in information.

You should immediately change the passwords for your email account and game account.

There are articles you can read in the Knowledge Base (Support at top of page) about Security that are informative and helpful.

Good luck.

Actually I don’t know if that one is phishing, since the only link appears to be for verifying the IP. But it does mean that someone has your account credentials and attempted to log in, at least. So you should absolutely change your password and email Customer Service to change your email address.

Ah, my bad. I didn’t really read the email very carefully. Though, I’ve not seen any email verification emails from NCSoft before.

Anyway, better safe than sorry, and change all passwords, etc.

Good luck.

What I noticed right away is that this came from NCSOFT and not from the Guild Wars 2 Team, or from ArenaNet. Could this pertain to a different game, such a Wildstar?

I was in the wildstar beta for a hot minute one weekend, but I do not play it anymore (at all, I deleted the program and everything). Thank you for responding oh Great Frog Gaile! That is exactly why I posted this thread because it came from NCsoft and not Guild Wars 2 or ArenaNet. It didn’t look like a phishing email so I am really confused for everything.

Perhaps, you could contact NCSoft Support (not through the email in question) and ask them if they sent you said email and why. Do you have an NCSoft account? Remember, deleting the game from your computer would not de-activate your Wildstar account, most likely. It wouldn’t de-activate your Guild Wars (1 or 2) account if you deleted those games.

That certainly looks legit (as it gives you an option other than clicking a link to verify). A phishing email would do everything possible to get you to click to their site and ask for account info.

Hi there, KeybladeMaster. I think we’ve come up with the answer: This is coming to you because you have an NCSOFT game and someone is attempting to access it. If that’s not you — and it sounds not to be you — I’d consider reviewing all my passwords and making sure each is complex and unique to that use, no sharing, no cross-game migration.

As pointed out above, this doesn’t seem phish-y (to me, either) because of the nature of the link. So you can dismiss the authorization as a worry, I feel, but I do think making sure you’re secure across all accounts would be a wise step to take.

I play Guild Wars 2 from Japan (2 years now), and last night I was abruptly disconnected and have not been able to connect since.

I can not connect to the forums or the game servers without using a VPN.

Has Anet or NCsoft put out a ban on access from Japan!? Please confirm.

Alright, thanks for the advice everyone. I think I will email NCsoft support and double check the passwords too. Is there a way to close the wildstar account in general? I don’t really care about that because I won’t be playing it, so I just want to make sure my Guild Wars 2 stuff is safe.

I would imagine you would need to speak to WildStar CS, as WildStar and Guild Wars 2 have nothing in common, save for the publisher.

Good luck.
