Problem is obviously fixed now, but this was extremely annoying because it was happening right in the middle of our guild bounty.

and this had nothing to do with that,nor did it occur within the timeframe that was mentioned in the notice.
Same thing happened tome, lots of post on the GW2 facebook but it was repaired fast, though some reported losing items.

You should check the time they made this post. It was well before the scheduled maintenance that was in the notice.
On a slightly off topic note, I don’t read the forums or twitter while I am playing the game. A little system maintenance warning notice in game wouldn’t hurt.
