Single GPU performing better than CrossFireX

Is this normal? I get 50 fps on CFX 6970s but I get 90 fps on a single 6970.
This was tested on a spot in Snowden Drifts and the software used for measurement is Fraps.
Not exactly normal, but not uncommon either. Various games have problems with Crossfire setups, it’s a problem with drivers not properly working with the game engine.

Yup, as Naqaj stated. Give it some time for them to come out with a Crossfire profile for GW2. Currently there is none so Crossfire is going to be handicapped ATM. I would recommend just playing with single GPU until a profile is released.

There is a crossfire profile for gw2. It came out a month or two ago. I can confirm crossfire doubles my fps. Make sure you have the newest drivers (12.11 beta) and are using the newest catalyst application profiles (Caps)

Oh there is. My mistake.
ShadowBlaze, also use something like GPU-Z and check your Crossfire setup. It’s possible that the PCI-E slot your second card is running on is x4 or something like that which would limit the second card.

I’m using 12.8 CAP 2 with 12.8 driver with two 5770 cards (motherboard supports x8/x8 PCI-E). I see roughly a 50% fps jump with crossfire enabled (i.e. 30 to 45fps in LA). Full screen mode of course (i used to run in windowed mode which crossfire does not support).

Most websites I see states that 2-way CFX setup at 16x/4x only affects roughly 8% performance loss compared to 8x/8x?

It is most certainly working in crossfire. I’m running tri and it scales accordingly. You are most likely not up to date on caps.

Compared to x8/x8, what about compared to x16/x16? I would think the difference is going to be a bit more. Also keep in mind, Crossfire throttles to the lowest PCI-E speed. So If your running one at x16 and one at x8, it will be throttled back to x8 for both. Now take that into consideration if one is running at x4.
shrugs Anyway, you can check it or not. That’s up to you, was offering another possible solution.

Not all mobso can do 16/16. Mine can’t. I kind of hoped there’s not a significant hit with 8/8 vs 16/16.

There really isn’t that much. I don’t think it would be noticeable.
