Sorry I know there are a lot of threads similar to this but I couldn’t find help within them. Basically I purchased and started downloading gw2 and it was going fine, I got about 7-8gb downloaded with speeds sitting around the 700kb/s area. Then the speed dropped dramatically down to around 100kb/s and so far hasn’t increased. I ran a speedtest on speedtest.net and got a download speed of 1.01mb/s, I then have tried changing my dns, disabling firewall and security and have made sure that there is no other internet activity at the same time, to no avail. Any help is appreciated.

If others people are downloading from Anet at the same time you are, you might experience slow speed not coming from your end.
Just be patient, no matter how fast/slow your download speed is, you will get the 20GB at some point.

" I ran a speedtest on speedtest.net and got a download speed of 1.01mb/s…"

1.01mbps is about 126KB per second (max). It looks like an issue with your ISP, although the update download speeds for GW2 tend to vary quite a bit.

Isn’t 1mb equivalent to 1000kb, therefore isn’t 1.01mb/s more like 1010kb/s. I think Anen is right however as as there would probably be a lot of people downloading the main game right now for the free week coming up soon.

It all depends on the notation, MB or Mb. I believe Abomally is right.

Yeah, the case indicates bits or bytes. A “b” is bits and a “B” is bytes. Internet companies tend to specify it in bits-per-second. To convert megabits/sec (Mbps) to megabytes/sec (MBps) simply divide by 8 .
