I didn’t receive an email of chat logs or anything about it – I really don’t think I deserve a three-day ban for whatever incident I was reported for. I definitely did not attack a player based on their race. Saying the ‘N’ word does not mean I’m racist and I never said it in a offensive way towards another player?

Basically I think I got banned for saying the ‘N’ word in a non-offensive way, indirectly and someone thought they might like to report me. Do I really deserve a three-day ban?

Sorry, but in my opinion there is no non-offensive way with the “N” word. It has a long history of when it was and still is used to insult, disrespect and hurt people in a racist way. Totally inappropriate to use this word in any way, not only in an MMO.

There is propably more behind all this that you are not telling us. Hearing you find it normal to use the “n” word occasionally makes me think you like to use kitten words allot which will result in a ban like this i suppose.

So basically I never attacked a player based on their race? And if I did offend someone so that they reported I wouldn’t know who that player so I never knew it offended someone in the first place.

I can hardly believe they banned your because you just said the “n” word. Btw i dont know any normal people who would use that word anyways. Hope you learned a lesson.

i got banned for the same thing, almost
i was singing a song that contains the N word, then someone reported me and i got banned
and yeah, this was all, i contacted the support and they said it.

Bit over zealous to be honest, it’s all about context.

Actually i play SC2 with people from allot of diffrent racial backgrounds, never use the “n” word tho its just not something i see fit to use…

Because using the N word is offensive. There is no inoffensive way to use the N word in public chat. So you deserved your ban. 3 days isn’t long enough in my view.

Just because you don’t consider a word offensive doesn’t mean that others won’t be offended when you use that word, especially in public chat in an MMO! Sometimes it’s easy to forget that you’re playing a game alongside hundreds of strangers, but that just means there’s potentially hundreds of people that could be offended.

Learn from your mistake and move on, coming into the forums to complain about it will not end well.

I agree that the N word cannot be “non-offensive”. It’s clearly offensive to use this word no matter what.

However, who cares?

I find this Soccer Mom crap soooo laughable… you release a game that is comprised of nothing except war and killing things (called “PvP” normally) but then you go ban people for being bad boys and using “big boy language”. It’s the hight of hypocrisy if you ask me.

This game already has a language filter and that should be enough to protect the oh-so-sensitive kiddies that play this game.

If that isn’t enough for you then add 18+ servers (only accessible after verifying your age).

Alternatively make two separate language policies: one for the USA (strict) and a second one for the rest of the world (liberal/relaxed). In general only the Americans have this powerful “Soccer Mom lobby” that forces game companies to enforce these laughable censorship rules on their players. Everywhere else it’s acceptable to use bad language (at least here in Europe). (OT: it’s the same with showing naked skin: full frontal nudity is a total no-no in the USA but here in Europe it’s acceptable in certain (non-pornopraphic) contexts – even during prime time TV shows).

Or simply don’t apply for an ESRB rating in the first place and sell the product via online distribution only (then you also don’t need to care about large supermarket chains like WalMart not selling your un-rated or X-rated game). It’s not like this game has an offline mode so all customers have an internet connection anyway.

They already suspend for this, and forum posters that use it get serious infractions. I report every use of the word gay as derogatory, and every time the post was cleared up and the moderator’s comments were visible in a forum search (which I think is a bug, but this is how I know they treat it as a serious infraction.) You deserved yours for the ‘N’ word.

If you said the N-word, then you were appropriately banned. I am sure there is more behind the scenario and while I do not care if you use the word in your personal life, if you used the word then that counts as a racial slur and it is a derogatory comment. No one knows if you are white/black, but that doesnt matter, its a derogatory term, same as using the R-word. You would never use these terms in a professional/public setting therefore you should not feel the need to use them in this game where you get to hide behind a PC anonymously.

It is not over zealous. Its not even about context. Its a derogatory term that represents negative racial connotations regardless of the color/race of the user. It is a word not accepted by our society regardless of its appearance in pop culture/music. It’s only true context is the years of insensitivity and hate within the world many choose to move past. If you are a person of any ethnicity you should be ashamed to use the word in your vocabulary. If you are black and you use the word it worse in my opinion.
