Seems it was not the servers and was actually a hiccup in the functionality of a backbone. Some GW2 players affected, some Blizzard players affected, but not all and across the board. Seems it has returned to normal functionality now.

yes is quite unplayable and im not even gonna talk about pvp/wvw. is not their fault there are always technical problems occurring

I’ve read outside these forums that it was a distributed denial of service. I tried pinging the main site and half of the packets were lost, everything else was more than 200 ms.
