So I got myself a 3D screen lately, only to find out that the Stereoscopic 3D Rendering option was still grayed out on my GW2 options. So I did some research and eventually found out that the option can be enabled only for NVidia graphics card, while I have an AMD. Needless to say that I was baffled and disappointed at this unfairness.

Hey, guess what, someone out there owns AMD cards and 3D monitors. Why doesn’t it support AMD products? Is Arenanet in league with Nvidia or what?

The request is simple. Please allow us, AMD card owners, to enjoy Stereoscopic 3D Rendering on Guild Wars 2 without the use of third-party software.

Whether something is either wrong or right, someone will always complain about it.

Bro, it’s never going to happen. Do some research before you buy something.

Well that post was helpful, now it’s clear that it’s my fault for not having an Nvidia card right?
I didn’t buy a 3D monitor just for Guild Wars 2, and I already have a perfectly working AMD graphics card that I’m not going to change anytime soon. Not going to spend money on a new Nvidia card just to get 3D.
Not going to happen you say? Then I guess we can add this to the list of bad things in GW2.

Whether something is either wrong or right, someone will always complain about it.

Well, I really can’t help you in any way. Just saying you will not get any support from AN regarding this matter.

The ‘stereoscopic’ rendering option that you see in the settings does not actually enable/disable stereoscopic 3D. (with AMD or Nvidia hardware) The game itself will not display in 3D.

The only PC game that I know of that would render a 3D image (without special drivers) is “Crysis2”. All other games require special drivers.

Truth be known, the AMD folks get away a bit less expensively than the Nvidia users do. Just add it up.

For AMD you need one of their cards, a 3D monitor or TV and a 3rd party driver ($40) and you can enjoy many games in Stereoscopic 3D.

Nvidia can be much more expensive, depending on how you go. If you go CARD/3D monitor route you’ll then need a $200 “3D Vision Kit” for their glasses and sync emitter. If you go the 3DTV route you’ll still need a $30-40 “3D play” license from them to use a HDMI cable to your TV.

Then again, ether solution may not get you useable performance. 3D is going to eat 40-60% of your existing frame rate. If your already ‘on edge’ on playability 3D might not be a viable option.

This is why many of us that game regularly in Stereoscopic 3D use high end systems and dual high end GPU’s in Crossfire/SLI configurations to get enough performance to keep up.

Is it worth it? You bet it is. The immersion of S3D visuals+5.1 or 7.1 sound (floor/wall speakers – not headphones that fake the effect) is something that simply has to be experienced.
