Sudden Random FPS Drops VERY COMMON
Any advice please?
That graph seems to indicate that your CPU clock frequency plummeted for about 15 seconds before returning to it’s normal frequency. Could it be thermal throttling? Is your CPU overheating? You can use a utility like coretemp to monitor your temps. What’s your CPU?
RIP City of Heroes
That may be it. I’m not sure, but it does seem to happen more frequently now that it’s no longer winter. And yes, my laptop gets really hot. I’m reinstalling GW2 now, seeing if that helps. I’ll try coretemp once GW2 installs.
My laptop:
It’s an Acer Aspire V3-57G
Intel Core i5-240M 2.5GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M with 2GB Dedicated VRAM
4GB DDR3 Memory
750GB HDD
Thanks for the help. Any further advice is appreciated!
Might just be your laptop getting too hot and throttling itself as Behellagh pointed out. Get a monitor prog like CPUID HWMonitor to be able to monitor everything. If it’s getting too hot, it’s POSSIBLE that a notebook cooling pad MAY help. It’s not guaranteed, but it could help and is generally not a bad idea to have one for a laptop when playing games anyway.

Reinstalled GW2 but that really did nothing but waste my internet lol. Here’s what i got from HWMonitor:

yea, his laptop is hitting the 100 C limit
OP, repaste your laptop heat sink. Your laptop is pretty old and the thermal paste is might be dried
