Champion: Phantom, Hunter, Legionnaire, Genius
WvW rank: Diamond Colonel | Maguuma
I’ve done a bit of research and it seems this has been an on-going issue. I hadn’t experienced it until just yesterday when my FPS dropped to 5. According to the specs of my computer I can barely handle the game as is, but prior to this it ran very smoothly. Although the highest FPS I would regularly get was 35 – 40 it didn’t seem or feel slow at all. It would drop in big zergs or in WvW but I’m aware that that is an issue everyone shares so it was something I could tolerate. Now, unfortunately, it will drop to 4 or 5 FPS no matter where I am/what I’m doing/what my settings are at. I had them set fairly low to begin with to compensate for my computer not being built for gaming and that seemed to allow me to play. Therefore I’m finding it unlikely that it has anything to do with the computer itself although I’m not ruling out the possibility.
If anyone has any suggestions/has fixed this themselves in the past I would really appreciate some info. The only thing that seems to solve this is restarting my computer. And it only solves the matter for no more than 30minutes before the FPS suddenly hits a steep decline again. I’ve also checked my task manager to monitor which programs are running and whether or not there are any taking up large quantities of RAM but again, it doesn’t seem to be any trouble with the computer, just the game \ :
Would it be a good idea to attempt uninstalling and reinstalling the game maybe?
I’m in the same boat as you my friend. My PC is not up to par, but, it is above the minimum requirements to play the game. I just got a new processor and started fresh on this PC. GW2 is the first game I installed and for about a good month and a half it played wonderfully, with low settings, getting around 45fps average. Yesterday I started up the game and my fps dropped down into the teens.
I’m not much of a PvPer I mostly just like running around and killing mobs. However, I decided to go into WvW just to check it out. That is the first thing I did different. I don’t know if the first time going into WvW if it downloads some extra feature but ever since I went to my servers borderlands, and came back to the game, my FPS has been low. The only other think I have done was downloaded another game that installed DirectX 9 which I thought was already on my PC. If you decide to re-install GW2 I would like to know if that helped with you fps issue.

Hi SpellOfIniquity – What kind of system specs are you working with? There’s a couple of things we could probably suggest for you to tweak to see if you have a performance increase but if you’re barely hitting min specs you might see some lower numbers of course. Single digits though is a bit troubling so I’d like to see if there’s anything that we could do for you here. As I’m sure you’ve seen WvW can run your system pretty hard and even players with beastly PC’s will see numbers plummet a little unfortunately.
