Sudden game freezes/stutters
I am having those too every once in a while, I assume it’s the Internet as there are no hardware issues (I tested everything). I suppose it is the same with your case.
However, since you are using a laptop, I would check the hardware temperatures as laptops tend to overheat easily.

Yeah, I’m getting them at least once every minute…
Overheating can also be ruled out considering it happens even when I’ve only just started up the laptop. I’ve also got one of those fans below it to prevent it from happening.
I’ll run some tests on it anyway, cheers!
Also getting ping spikes every few minutes, very consistently and only ever since the patch.
Ran tests concerning overheating, clearly not a problem either…
As to the issue being patch and/or ping related, as I mentioned in the original post; My issues started last Friday (several days prior to the patch) and my ping doesn’t go over 50, really.
Still at a loss for what might cause this issue :\
I feel your pain. I’ve been experiencing similar issues since the patch on Tuesday.
I’ve been stuttering, freezing and full rebooting since Tuesday’s patch.
There are at least a dozen possible causes I can think of off the top of my head.
Best contact tech support with detailed system specs info.
Well, don’t know what changed but it just suddenly stopped freezing up on me since yesterday.
Wish I found out what ended up fixing it though…

Could have been a Windows 10 issue, if you are using that terrible OS. If it auto-updates without your knowledge, it might look like your issue miraculously disappeared.
Well, seems like it’s back!
Albeit in a slightly different form with a bit more of a target as to where the problem is (again, nothing actually changed as far as I’m aware).
Now I got more of a ‘screen tearing’ thing going on. Due to that I decided to mess around with the ingame Frame Limiter. Putting it at 60 made it bad, putting it to 30 made it worse, so obviously I’m leaving it on unlimited. I can completely fix the issue by turning on the V-Sync though (Never had to do that before), though that results in the artifically low framerates that the game warns me for.
I’ll start mucking about with my framerate setting tomorrow, but it’s really weird that GW2 is litterally the only game where I get this issue…

I think I’m having the same issue as you are. it only happens in specific places too. It seems to happen the most often in some pve maps and spawn of world vs world. Oddly enough doesn’t affect me so much during actual fights. I tried the v-sync you just mentioned and it stop the issue but like you said affects my actual framerates. Contacted support, I’ll keep you posted too if I heard anything or a find a fix.
Overheating can still be an issue even if you just launched the laptop. Cheap models (not specifically made for gaming) heat up pretty fast.
More details could be helpful:
- Have you tried lowering the game’s settings?
- Did you unpark all CPU cores?
- Do you provide proper cooling for your laptop?
- What OS do you use?
Yeah, some maps are worse than others. I don’t PvE too much, but I checked out LA and it’s definitely been at it’s worst there.
Ashantara, my current laptop is made for gaming (I actually study to make games myself, so I needed it). Funny enough, my old laptop runs the game just fine albeit with lower FPS as is to be expected.
I’ve checked out the CPU and the cores were parked. Unparking them now and hope it helps.
I’ve got a fan below my laptop for cooling purposes, plus (although it doesn’t mean much) my laptop doesn’t feel like it physically warms up.
As for OS, I’ve got the dreaded Windows 10. So yes, I do believe that it’s likely some automated update(s) have slipped through, despite having that option turned off.
EDIT:
Sadly, unparking the CPU cores doesn’t help. I do pull better FPS when I turn on Vsync, but it’s still lower than how I previously ran without Vsync (and without issues…).
I’ll keep looking.

That’s the thing, you can’t really turn them off under Win 10 (at least not anymore). You can postpone them at best.
Many people have been having issues with the bigger, more recent system updates, but since I am still on Win 7, I can’t be of much help there. Sorry.
I’m still having this issue. Anyone figure out a fix?
Same problems here..
try throttlestop, it’s not the holy grail but it will prefent some issues. (parking and unparking since the 6 cores don’t benefit much). Gw2 is also not the holy grail but then again i expect more rubber banding then freezes. Don’t use vsync in gw2 but use adaptive in nvidia panel also set buffering to 1. Problem is when a frame is ready to shown up in gw2 and to late for vsync it will be trown away and a new is calculated when it’s again to late for the next vsync you’re screwed. Adaptive vsync will prevent this. Or better Gsync but that’s not for all.
