Suddenly really awful FPS (SOLVED)
Same, just happened to me. I used to run around 40-50 and now get 30 when running around and god forbid combat, it gets around 5-10…
Seems to only happen around the fish oil area in Orr.

Make sure that Windows Update didn’t update your video driver. There was a new patch that went out today. Other than that I don’t know. Heat issue? Left some other task running, a browser tab with videos streaming?
Taking guesses.
RIP City of Heroes
I formatted my PC, reinstalled/downloaded all the appropriate drivers/software to get current…and still I chug whether I am at high or low settings. None of my parts are overheating either. I’ve run a memcheck, a CPU check, and a GPU stress test- No bugs, no errors, nothing. I feel like I am at a dead end : [
I’m having the same issue right now. I was on earlier this morning and was perfectly fine. I go to log in just a few minutes ago and I can’t get over 15 FPS no matter where I am or what my settings are. I normally get 60 FPS.
Nothing at all. I can’t play GW2 anymore. I’ve formatted, done this and that, I’ve tried so many options and still I have gotten nowhere…I really want to play but I just can’t.

I noticed that the Windows Update was the only thing that I did between last night and today that’s completely wrecking my FPS. I tried system restoring to before that point, but I’m still getting massive FPS drops. I’m in the same position as OP – normally got 40-50 FPS all around, now I can’t get more than 10 anywhere, regardless of the settings. My physical memory also maxes out whenever I open GW2, and only when I open GW2.
Really running out of options – clearly formatting doesn’t work..maybe there’s another update to fix this? Always seems to happen to me when I actually have time to play
So, after further research, I’ve done the following and had little-no success on fixing the problem:
- Clean boot
- Uninstall all previous graphics drivers, reinstall the latest ones
-System restore to two different points before the update last night.
Nothing has worked, changing settings ingame doesn’t help either. My physical memory is also skyrocketing. Dunno what else to do, hopefully someone finds a solution or we get a response soon.
This is my third format/installation of my system now and while just a shot in the dark it will hopefully do something but I really wish a dev would come around and say something. It can’t be my hardware, I’ve been doing nothing but bug sweeps, and artifact breaks, and 3d benchmarks. All my other games run fine. No solution yet.
I doubt it’s a hardware issue.
Something wonky happened with the windows security update and its interaction with Guild Wars 2. It’d be oddly coincidental that all of the people posting in this thread happened to have a hardware problem on the same night after the same update. I’m pretty much lost, going to try a clean install of GW2 and see if that fixes it by the time I get back from university.
Let me know if you have any luck.
Unfortunately nothing has changed :< I will keep trying though…
It may be something to do with the April update for Guild Wars 2 with the super adventure box as I’ve had exactly the same issue. It’s more skill lag than actual lag but I also get these infinite loading screens which force me to close the game on my windows bar and then restart… Only to have the same infinite loading screen over and over again.
It’s getting quite ridiculous now and it definitely isn’t a hardware or internet issue. My opinion is that it may well be on ArenaNet’s end.

SAB has worked fine, and the problem we seem to be having is more FPS lag rather than skill delay or whatnot.
I’ve opened a ticket, but I was in class all day so I was unable to follow up with their requests. Downloaded the new AMD Drivers (again), clean booted (again), still having no success. Super frustrating, my LoL client runs at 80 FPS and SC2 is running at about 50 on max settings.
In the last few weeks I have notice lag in areas where I previously had no problem. I have recently upgraded my computer so that I could play GW without problems and after that big financial output I am more than discouraged. The initial result of my upgrade was wonderful but in the past few weeks I am not only getting 7:11:3:189:101 server lost contact with game client messages but the performance of my computer in GW has dropped dramatically. When I select auto detect graphics the game selects all high settings which means that my computer more than meets the requirements of the game but I am having to override this to play wvw using best performance settings which give me barely acceptable graphics. Now when I am in wvw I experience extreme skill freeze – lag is not adequate to describe what happens. I appear to port back to a previous position which is mind blowing when you are trying to escape a zerg, I find myself slap bang in the trouble I thought I had escaped! A fellow player said that I was actually running on the spot and never escaped. I have reached a red port into a fort in time to escape trouble only to find that I could not get in – the port would not allow me in for so long that the zerg caught me and wiped me out. When there are zergs around I am often completely unable to use any of my skills and my character just stand there doing nothing. To cap it all it took 5 minutes before I was able to wp back to the citadel. They really need to address this issue in wvw.
When I mentioned SAB I meant after the SAB update (or more specifically the 16th April update as it seems to have escalated since then) not in SAB itself. Sorry for any confusion
Have you even tried deleting the Local.dat File ?
Located in “C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\Guild Wars 2”
Also i see no mention whatsoever about anyone even having bothered to try and repair their clients, you’re all jumping through hoops and forget the 2 most important things.
Deleting Local.Dat and repairing client by adding a -Repair commandline parameter behind the Gw2 Shortcut.
Also have a look in C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Temp , And delete the Entire Gw2cache folder.Preferably before repairing the client.

I already deleted the dat/temp folders, and tried repairing Gw2. Fully uninstalled/reinstalled, didn’t fix anything.
I DID FIX IT THOUGH GUYS!
I’m not sure if we have the same problem, but after doing a ton of diagnostics tests with ANet Support, we ran a GPU-Z test and noticed my PCI-E slot said x1 instead of x16. Now, I know this is weird, since my other games were running at really smooth graphics still. Regardless of what I thought, I followed the employees advice and went to reseat the graphics card. While I did that, I cleaned out all of the dust from my computer, reseated the graphics card, and unplugged, blew out, and plugged back in the wires around the CPU.
Not sure how or why that fixed the problem, but it did. Running at a smooth 40-50FPS again on high settings, currently using the 13.4 AMD drivers and application profiles.

Mine seems to have resolved partially by itself o.0 I was trying some WvW just before and I managed to heal without having to wait 10 seconds! I’m yet to test dungeons but it’s definitely better than it was yesterday.
BUMP. This problem of mine has been SOLVED and hopefully will help you to resolve the issue too!
