I just got this game and started playing it and it seems to run ok but I would like it to run better if possible. Most graphic options are low with one or two mediums and I’m getting around 20 fps. 30 if nothing happens on the screen.

My graphics card is an NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250. With 2286MB of memory.
My CPU is an Intel Core Duo Proccessor E4500 @ 2.20GHz (2 CPUs).
And I have 3070MB of RAM.

Got all this from the DxDiag. Which should I upgrade? Like whats the most important? Should I get a better graphics card or more RAM? Thanks.

thats a build i came up with for somebody else on here, SolarNova will give you an intel build.

we need a budget before we can really help much.

your whole systems under powered for this game.

Dang it. So I cant just upgrade something for it to run better instead of getting a whole new PC? Since I’ve heard if I have to get a better CPU that it’s better to just get a whole new PC. Don’t know why though.

Bassicaly u need a new rig. becouse the main part to play GW2 good is the CPU. In ur case a CPU good enough for GW2 means u would need a new motherboard due to the chipset ..also new RAM as we now use DDR3 not DDR2.
Your powersupply may also need changing..then u need a better grpahics card becouse the GTX 250 although can run GW2 isnt exactly a good card. In the end its a whole new rig, u can salvage parts from ur current one to reduce cost but only if ur willing to build the rig urself.

As Jaz said, if ur interested in building or buying a new rig we can help give u recommendations on parts to buy, or where to search for a prebuilt ..though most people would advice to build it urself as u can save anywhere from $100 to $300 doing it urself depending on how high spec u go. We would need a budget though..and remember ..building a rig for gaming isnt cheap ..and building a rig aiming to play GW2 is even lesss cheap as it requirs a beafy CPU.

well said SN well said.

you can save more then that vs what a prebuild of similar specs costs, it really depends on what your looking for.

something else to remember, a properly built gaming pc will last longer then a cheap off the shelf “big box store pos”, I have friends who rebuild ever 3-4 years, in that 3-4 years they do minor updates to the system to keep it relevant.

thats another advantage of building a proper gaming rig, rather then replacing it, if built properly, you will have at least some upgrade paths, OEM systems like a dell/acer/hp/exct will always be harder to upgrade in any meaningful way compared to a proper custom build, its just the nature of the hardware OEM’s use to maxamize their profits.

depending on what your current system is, you may be able to re-use the case….the gpu is a wash, the ram is a wash……exct, even an AMD A10’s built in video is more powerful then a the 250 if given proper ram.(i know i have the 250’s older brother using the same chip).

give us a budget and we can help you find something(or tell you to save up a bit and sell the old system to make a few bucks :P )

Well jeez guys you make it seem like my pc is utter crap. It still runs the game pretty well it’s just not what I expected. For some reason though I’m getting better frame rates today. Not sure why. It’s not to the point where it’s just so bad I’m a robot. But thanks.

Still can’t believe I can’t upgrade at least one thing to make it somewhat better though.

Well the CPU u have was released in Q3 of 2007 ..that means its roughly 5 years old, even top of the line gaming rigs that are built from parts that have litteraly just released will usualy only last 4 years before a major overhaul is needed, and within the 1st 3 years u can usualy expect to upgrade the graphics card(s). Those numbers get smaller when the computer in question is a mid or low end rig to begin with.. in those casses the number of years b4 a overhaul is needed could be as low as 2 years.

So i think u have held on for a very good amount of time if u have had that rig since 2007/8 or even 2009. All rigs eventually reach an age where upgrading 1 part simply isnt efficient or viable.

U can still get the fastest quadcore u find for socked 775 those quads arround 3ghz would give u a massive improvement over ur current performance with a relative low investment. That is what i would do, the GT 250 is fine until u have money for a full upgrade, it is a very capable card, it will serve u well, GW2 is a dx9 title anyways.

Something like that with a bit of overclock
