Hi there!
As the topic says I’m currently on a AMD FX-4170 (I know … it was a fail …) and I’m thinking about buying a new CPU, ’cause the rest of my hardware is great.
So my question: Is the AMD FX-8350 worth the price, or would you prefer another AMD AM3+ Socket CPU?
Thanks for answers :-)
Greetings

Those are WoW benchmarks, but you could use that as rough measurements. Gw2 being very CPU bound would get lower results. You get more cores, but that won’t help GW2 much.

Yeah … but … which AM3+ CPU is the best for around 200 bucks?

Either save and go for Intel. Pretty much AMD is lagging in its CPU department. Afaik you can get the i5-3570k for 200$ + some z75 or z77 boards for 70~80$.
The only way you’re going to get a decent CPU upgrade is going to Intel. Spending more money on that socket would just be a waste.

If you already have the 200$ for that 8350 then just save a bit more for an i5 3570k and board Amd are fail for gaming you probably wont get much better performance from 4170 vs 8350 in gw2 at all.
I switched from amd to intel and no comparison at all for gaming this game runs smooth as silk even in 100+ wvw zergs.

Large zergs can take the framerate below 20 with a 3570K, which isn’t exactly “smooth as silk”.

I haven’t had it drop lower then lower 30s with 100+ players.
last night three servers were fighting in stomemist with easy 150 players and it never got below 30 and still looked smooth.

OP, as a former proud and almost lifelong supporter of AMD, don´t.
Just don´t.
Kick AMD to the curb, get 100 more bucks and build yourself an Intel gaming system. Throwing any more money at AMD is just like throwing it into the bin.

Well either there was some massive optimization done between now and the last time I was in a massive zerg, or you’re running much lower settings than I am.
I’ve got everything at the highest setting (@1080p) except for Render Sampling which is at native and with my 3570K @4.4GHz & 670 @ 1050MHz (base), I’ve seen my fps below 20 during some very big zergs.
call me an Intel fanboi all you want, i’m all favor when it comes netgame.
at least I made the right move.
back to OP, those two processors are just literally same class.
case closed.

I concure with what most have said here. Save a bit mroe and move over to Intel.
Arguments can be had for AMD vs Intel in benchmarks and multi thread aps and price vs performance ratios etc. .But for GW2 ..Intel trounces AMD.. just make sure to get a half good aftermarket cooler and OC the cpu.
A I5 2550k is ‘around’ the same price as the FX 8350 ..so is the 3570k. Which one u choose is down to how far u would want to OC…. 4.4ghz and below =3570k ..4.5ghz and above= 2550k.

A intel CPU is 30% faster than Vishera CPUs, but vishera can clock a little higher. A Ivy bridge CPU at 4.4ghz will still be 20% faster than a vishera at 5ghz. To me is not a really important deffierence i mean 20% of 15FPS is 3 FPS… The thing is, the game engine wasn’t designed for such complex models and huge enviroments. No CPU up to date will give u a good experience in WvW saddly. And yes intel will give u overall a 30-20% faster frames but, they will suck anyway. I would recomend to overclock ur Buldozer as high as it can go and save the money.
overclock wouldn’t save any money, it all end up in your hydro bill.
