I have tried updating everything, forwarding ports, running in safe mode, as admin, direct download, I have no safety left on the computer what so ever!

Still getting the same message that most of you got – unable to download – check internet connection.

Been playing MMOs since UO – been at this for hours now and am nearly beaten.

You are better people than I.

I have put a ticket in – if there is anything you think I might have missed please add link – i’d love to give it a go

cheers

- You could try the ‘/clientport 80’ option: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/10-5-11-2130-101-closed-connections/77719
- Run as admin if it doesn’t ask you to elevate
- Put your computer into your router’s DMZ (but enable Winderps Firewall before doing so)
- And the DNS cache flush: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Launcher-all-of-a-sudden-won-t-connect-to-internet-or-even-re-install-the-game/34995

Have you directly connected to the modem, bypassing the router? Set your IP to automatic (if it’s manually assigned) and directly connect. If that still doesn’t work there’s some software on the PC either blocking ports, incoming connections, etc. I’ve had issues with firewall software leaving my ports blocked after it was UNinstalled. Try running a port checker online (again, directly connect first) to check. I suggest using ShieldsUP: https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2

I made exceptions for GW2 and did not leave the ports just open. Won’t shieldsUP simply tell me that they are closed/stealthed?

I’m new to port forwarding – most games I buy work out of the box – i don’t have the right connectors atm to bypass the router :/

thanks for your suggestions – that is a great site btw.

I had the problem with AVG that making an exception for Guild Wars 2 did not work. You could try to install the free AVG firewall and try the AVG fix posted here.

As for port forwarding, make sure that the TCP trigger is set to 6112 and on your Computers IP adress.

Well, the point of running ShieldsUP directly connected to the modem (eliminating the router as a cause of port-related issues/blocking) is to see if there is any software on your PC causing port and connection-related issues. If you have no firewall software installed, Windows firewall is disabled, and you are bypassing the router, they should read OPEN under normal circumstances. This is just a troubleshooting step to ID the actual problem, as you definitely don’t want a bunch of open ports under normal circumstances.

6112 is however just a normal Gaming port used by most if not all games for online play.

I gave the opendns a try but my router does not seem to have the function to manually add a dns source – it had a few for me to choose from but i could not opt for the one you suggested.

Did you tried this way ?
Windows 7

Click the Start Orb, then select Control Panel.
Click on Network and Sharing Center.
Click on your primary connection or Local Area Connection under Active Networks.
Click the Properties button.
Windows 7 may prompt you for permission to make network setting changes.
Highlight ‘Internet Protocol Version 4’ and click Properties.
Click the radio button ‘Use the following DNS server addresses:’ and type 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 in the Preferred DNS server and Alternate DNS server fields.

Not that I am aware off. I am running a Asus Nvidia 560 Ti and it runs fine. Download the latest nvidia drivers and during installation choose custom instead of express and make sure you have the fresh install option selected. then just continue installing like normal(press next, next next etc)

This will make the installer delete all previous drivers from nvidia and install a complete clean driver.

can any help me with this – im struggling to get it – CS passed this on:

1. Locate and remove the Ethernet cable that is plugged into the back of your router from the modem. This cable may be connected to a port marked as a “WAN” port.

2. Replace the Ethernet cable currently plugged into your system with the cable you removed from the router.

3. Confirm that your Internet connection is working properly by visiting a few websites. If you cannot browse to a website, please reboot your modem by unplugging the power cable to it and plugging it back in.

I dont have a modem – i have an ethernet adaptor.

I have one ethernet cable going to my router from my computer.

if I follow the steps above: nothing will be plugged into the router. Should there be something else plugged into the router? Into my router I literally have a :
phone line in
power cable
ethernet cable

Am I missing something? I have read that CS suggestion 10 times and don’t get it.

Try this for me. Open up a command prompt as admin and type in

pkgmgr /iu:“TelnetClient” <- this installs telnet for all windows flavours after xp
telnet 64.25.40.118 6112 <- opens a connection to the gw2 update server (I think that’s the one…)

A black screen is good, a “connection failed” is bad. This rules out not being able to connect to GW2 at all. Hit ctrl+c a couple times to close it.

Not quite :p Take out that GW2.
From within telnet, >open 64.25.40.118 6112

You’ll either get something like

Microsoft Telnet> open 64.25.40.118 6112
Connecting To 64.25.40.118…

Connection to host lost.

or

Microsoft Telnet> open 64.25.40.118 6112
Connecting To 64.25.40.118…Could not open connection to the host, on port 6112
: Connect failed

The first one’s the one you want to see.

@Bigtone,

Where are you from and what is your Internet Service Provider.

If you are Running DSL, If it is a digital phone line(analog still requires a Splitter) you just plug the phone line into the Modem/Router combination they send you, then wire the phone from it and your Internet.

These type of devices configure ports just like stand alone routers do.

That’s good. Just wanna make sure that you’re still running it as admin as well (go to c → prog files → guild wars 2, gw2.exe has “run this program as administrator” checked off).

If that doesn’t work, disable UAC. http://www.petri.co.il/disable_uac_in_windows_vista.htm

After that, the last thing I can think of for now is admin + XP SP3 compatibility.
