The sour truth: game is UN.PLAY.ABLE
And yet many more people play just fine and don’t post on forums.
The engine isn’t perfect by a long shot but the amount of times that blame is laid firmly at Anets door and the problem ends up being at the users end are frequent. There is no question that some problems are down to Anet but without being able to test on every possible configuration of PC they rely on users to give information from both crash logs and troubleshooting steps already taken.
Troubleshooting is a users responsibility, those power supply suggestions that you question are often valid with people updating big-box machines with new graphics cards and other hardware that the original junk PSU isn’t designed for. “I have a 1000w powersupply!!”, “yea, but it only throws out 17A on the 12v rail”, “but…but…1000w!!”
Same with connection issues; wireless noise, isp routing problems and other problems such as for instance isp’s seeing game packets as p2p and throttling automatically are all recent events that have caused frustration for us users.
I don’t personally have many issues with the game, yes I drop to 20-25fps during dragon events for instance while running a very high resolution but generally the game is perfectly playable.
Am I alone in this? I doubt it.

For starters why not list your computer specs?
Btw, there seems to only be a small percentage that have issues with the game.

I’ve been playing since December 2012. I’ve had a total of ONE disconnect in that entire time and I’ve had several play sessions go for 6-8+ hours, although I’m a pretty casual player.
I played for (only) a couple of hours today and experienced no DC’s or any other issues.
As others have hinted – despite your contention that there’s a server-side problem, there clearly isn’t – or at least, whatever you’re seeing isn’t ONLY server-side – or EVERYONE would be experiencing this, and that’s simply not the case. So I’m afraid it looks like you’ve found a problem specific to your machine hardware, software or connection. For what it’s worth, I’ve had similar problems, at various times, in every MMO I’ve played; I know just how annoying and frustrating they are.
This may have nothing to do with your particular problem, but I’ve noticed that the most annoying ones have very often been down to my detailed network connector settings. From memory, I had to change the Checksum Offload setting on at least 3 occasions when I was playing WoW, and it’s certainly something I’d consider making a note of the settings of, then changing, if I were seeing lots of DC’s that other people weren’t. It’s certainly capable of causing problems of the sort you’re seeing**.
Either way, right now – and in common with the vast majority of people playing the game – I’m currently seeing no problems with disconnects in GW2, despite playing for (too many) hours a day. I’d start trawling the forums for further posts containing detailed technical suggestions and responses, if I were you.
**To quote from Wikipedia: “((Checksum Offload)) may cause packet analyzers detecting outbound network traffic upstream of the network adapter that are unaware or uncertain about the use of checksum offload to report invalid checksum in outbound packets.”

Thanks for posting this, and the reply. I feel not quite so alone. It may not be my answer, but it’s given me a place to start. Or, my actual connection may be ???
For the past year…months?…I also crash two or three times a night in GW1, which never used to happen with the same PC but old 56k modem.
BUT if I’m kicked out of my instance in GW1, I can jump back in.
*Why can I not here, when I’m playing my story? *
Anyway OP I share your pain.
if you want help, negative comments don’t work well.
like sobe said post your specs and os, and we will help you.
posting your dxdiag.txt would help too.
hundreds of thousands of people are playing without problems.
And thousands of hundreds of players aren’t playing due to problems

I think its incorrect to say that only a tiny minority experience these issues. From my experience, everyone, especially since the wvw update, has had days where connecting to guildwars seems impossible and yet no other game or mmo in their library experiences the same. We just don’t keep raising it here because its pointless.
It’s like the skill lag issue. Arenanet acknowledges that this is server side and is working to fix it. They state that players in high tier servers “got used to it”, and that phenomenon is the same for these disconnects and “false logins” where we seem to be in but really the game has crashed and just hasn’t told us yet.
My personal suspicion is that there are internet providers who have mistakenly labelled gw2 traffic as filesharing and thus give it low priority. This has happened before with other mmo’s but has always been picked up quickly. The problems seem to be common to those in the same geographical areas at the same time.
It is like a throwback to the time of the 56k modem and games like EQ and I can only hope that the coming changes to fix skill lag will help with all the other problems.
The game works just fine for 94% of the players. Of the rest, 2-3% have network related issues (Bad ISP’s, Failing/Aging Routers, Bad NIC Drivers…ect), 2% have faulty software setup (or damage from previous virus removals, Infection cleanups) and 1% have legitimate Hardware issues.
Unfortunately, that 4-6% yields 500-1500 Players that are vocal and here on the forums complaining. But that does not mean the game is unplayable or broken for the majority of the users.
OP – You did NOT post your system specs, so how can you HOPE to get any constructive feedback about your complaint?
Others that are repeating what the OP says – You did not post your system specs either. Nor go into much detail on the issues you are seeing. Infact, dont hi-jack other’s threads to complain about a similar issue. Create a new one. Its a PITA to track and mitigate issues that span across 4-5 different threads for 4-5 different users/people.
