To Core 2 Quad users
I have a Q6600 running at the stock speed of 2.4 GHz with a GTX460 1GB.
During PVE I usually have 30-40 FPS. In larger events with 10-15 players it drops to low twenties. In very deserted areas and instanced personal story it’s always above 40.
I never touched PVP so I can’t tell how it is.
Q6600 at 3.0 with 560Ti
Horrible performance.
PVE 20-40
Larger events 10-20
WvW sieges 5-10
Do not bother getting an old quad for this game as its horribly unoptimized and i ve yet to hear anything from ANET that this is gonna change.

Q6600@stock with a 6970.. totally crap fps. Around 10-30 running around lions arch.
Q6600@3.6ghz with 6970.. Waaay better, around 25-50ish running around lions arch.
Overall, pretty pathetic really.

Exact same setup—same performance (shadows make most improvement) and still seems like the 301 drivers are the best for me. I’ll probably try the new 306 ones eventually, but the beta ones were worse for me
PvP runs vastly better, but WvW fights slow to like 10fps (in big crowds)
Don’t get a Core 2 Quad (unless you can OC to 3.6 lol)
i google this thread and just want to say:
i run in wvw with zergs on Sandy Bridge i5-2500k (time to time i overclocked to 4.4 ghz) + Radeon 5850 on auto graphic settings and fps and picture quality are OK…
then my motherboard die and burn cpu but i have some hardware from old pc – Core 2 Quad Q8300 and at same settings i have very big lags… i overclock cpu from 2.5 to 3-3.4 ghz and fps bit better but still have lags… change settings to “all low” also give just a bit better fps but i still have lags…
so far i googled only two cpu benchmarks for gw2:

russian but u can just watch cpu picture or use google translate for more info

CPU: QX6850 3.0ghz (3.66ghz OC) < Quad Core
GPU: 460 OC
WvW 3-10 (in battles)
PvE 25-40
Settings Medium/ High mix. 1920×1080.
GPU never maxes out. Tis bottlenecked by CPU.

I have i5 3350p
GTX 560 Ti
8g ram
WvW in big battles 30 fps, normal with Vsync on 60 fps
PVE 60 fps steady.
Guess what the i5 processor cost.. 140 euro.
Its almost the same as a i5 3570k but it doesnt have a build in GPU, thats why it is cheaper and you cannot overclock it.
My game works great now
Your post states do not post i5 stuff, but your wrong with 300-400 E
no self respecting gamer buys a locked cpu…..common…..
that said, this games gonna run poorly on anything you put it on, but anything older then i3 with HT or an 8150/8300/6300 series from AMD clocked to 4.5 or so is going to leave you wanting to bang your head into the desk repeatedly.
Im not sure where your from but a q6600 or even qx9770 wont cut it for this game, bare minimum cost wise to upgrade to get a huge perf boost, amd 6300@4.5 or better, you can do that pretty cheaply…..but the price is so close to a 8350 that you may as well “splurge” and upgrade to something that would totally smoke what your using now or a q6600 in ever game or app out there….
im guessing E is euro?
let me know what shops online you can use, I bet theres an upgrade that could be done for a decent price to get you up to speed with modern games and apps.
I think it may be helpful if I explain why 775 was bandoned and is a dead platform.
lga775 uses a northbridge chipset with memory controler to move data to and from cpu><ram over the FSB, the FSB becomes saturated very easily on 775 systems, due to the fact the memory controler is on the chipset and uses the fsb to move all data, both from cards(video/sound/usb/exct all move over fsb) its like the freeway at rush hour….
intel copied what amd had been doing for years when they moved to the core i series, the memory controler is in the cpu, this means cpu communicates directly with ram, freeing up alot of communication bandwidth for videocards/soundcards/usb devices/exct, with gw2, its not just that the q6600 or qx9770 is slow compared to todays chips, its also that im sure the fsb becomes saturated slowing everything down, this is probably why buss overclocking these systems shows such good results, not only does it make the cpu faster but it also makes the fsb faster…..still its a bottleneck.
your system is bottlenecking your videocard.
im sure you could just replace the mobo/cpu/ram and use the rest of your parts easily, making your upgrade cheaper….sell you old stuff on ebay after upgrade and your looking at even cheaper upgrade.
I will be back later gotta run to store…..hope this helps explain why so many people push people on 775 to upgrade even if its to an i3 or fx4170…either way, they are faster then what you got….

I am sorry but a processor your gonna use max 2 years, and then you are going to buy a new one. Just because the tech. speeds up in a rapid rate, i never overclocked my stuff before and now i can play every game on recommended settings that comes out, so i do respect myself and my wallet
My last CPU lasted me 4 years thanks to a small OC (3ghz to 3.66ghz), now its been passed down to another family member who is still using it..granted it cant really play GW2 very well but its still usfull .. my current one will also likely last 4 years.. infact b4 i even replace it i will upgrade my cooling to a custom water loop and OC even further up to 5ghz, extending is usefullness another year probably. So OC’ing can be very usefull and cost efficient. getting a OC’able cpu and the cooling to do it may be expensive i the short term but is cheaper in the long term

well said SN, well said, my progression over the last few years has been more chips but they cost alot less, and i was very poor for a while.
i went from a 435 unlocked to b35(tricore unlocked to quad) at 3.6 to a 6 core@3.6(turbo put all cores at 4+ghz on my gb 790xt ud4p)then i got an amazing deal on my first sabertooth 990fx, 74bucks shipped!!!(buddy hooked me up when somebody he did computer work or messed up and got the wrong board for their case(wouldnt fit) they told him to keep it, and because he owed me, he did me a solid and sold it to me for what i could afford.(never even opened the box…)
my 1055t always had a weak IMC and it eventually gave out, so before I rma’d the chip, I ordered a 8120(8150 was out of stock everywhere that had a decent price), AMD pays shipping on rma chips and it took them about 2 weeks to get me a new chip(includes shipping time), either way, I was so happy with the 8120@4.6 that I nabbed a 2nd 990fx sabertooth 1.0 off geeks for around 90 shipped, (promo codes rock), and when i was able to afford it, (and the price dropped to msrp) i nabbed this chip, put the 8120 in my 2nd system
main rig is in my sig, 2nd rig is
sabertooth 990fx
core contact freezer
8120@4.2(stock volts)
16gb ddr3 1600 hyperx genesis(good stuff)
2×6870 1gb@xfx black bios
730watt kingwin psu
coolermaster cosmos wraith case
2-120×38mm panaflo 4 pin pwm fans!!! fans (bottom intake, read exhaust $8.99 each shipped on ebay!!!)
2-140×25mm prolimitech vortex top fans(sidewinder computers)
main rigs in a coolermaster cosmos medusa(got the cases referb for 110 each shipped around christmas these normally run $720-$850)
oops kinda OT but yeah, I also have my 1055t back in my 790xt ud4p that needs an hdd….its got a 6670 ddr3 in it…gonna hook it to the tv I think….hehe
but yeah to the OP I know you dont wana hear it, but, you really do need to replace your motherboard/ram/cpu.
this can be done cheap and then over time be upgraded.
its not gonna be that much faster then what you have but a 4170@4.6 on an asrock 970 extreme4 with 8-16 gb ddr3 1600 or 1866 would be a major upgrade platform wise, and would be a good start to learn overclocking, it would also let you buy an 8350 later as you get more money if you cant swing it up front.
if you can swing it, honestly 990fx extreme4 with 8350 and 16-32gb ddr3 1600/1866 would be alot better then what you got or a q6600 for every game on the market, as well as every app on the market…..
you can re-use your hdd for sure, if your optical is sata you can re-use it, psu should be re-useable, if not its pretty easy to find a good quality cheap psu these days(just ask and i can link a few)
and overclocking can save alot of money, my 6000+ lasted me YEARS longer then my friends rigs that weren’t overclocked(or in many cases weren’t overclockable due to crap bios) that sucker did 3.8 on air!!!(for its era, that was very fast)

I have a Q8400 2.66Ghz
8GB PC 800 Ram
An nVidia 660Ti
20" monitor 1680×1050
Windows 7 64 bit home
I’m ok with my performance in typical PvE stuff. I generally hover around 30-38 fps
Dragon battles and guild exploring zergs I drop down to about 25-30Fps.
If I engage FRAPS recording(saving to an eSATA drive not the main system drive) I get about 20-27 FpS depending how many players are on the screen.
Note: I haven’t done any WvWvW so Can’t comment on what I’d get there. I suspect probably less than 20 FpS. But one reason I don’t do WvWvW is I fear the slide show I’d get.
With my Socket 775 system I don’t really have anywhere to upgrade without getting an entire new guts for the system. a QX9650 (second best CPU for my socket) isn’t worth the price for me for maybe a 10% gain. I may upgrade to a i7 system next year

New intel CPU’s r expected* early june, thats a good time to upgrade. .immediatly after new tech release. last thing u wanna do is upgrade just b4 or between 2 release times.
*i say expected becouse its not ‘officaly’ confirmed.
