Just a quick ask around.
How many folk who get 70 fps and above as average enable vsync as they don’t like
screen tear. I was getting 60-100 with a little screen tear here and there, and it didn’t bother me.
But I have started using vsync and now get a nice 50 fps rock steady with no tear.

Point is a kinda miss my higher fps, so im asking what do most people who can get
high fps prefer

Cheers

I only check vsync when I get tired of the sound the Gpu fan makes, at higher framerates it gets really loud.

Vsync always. More then 60FPS has no purpose whatsoever and screen tearing is apocalypticly annoying.

I play fullscreen borderless windowed mode mostly. I don’t use Vsync, more like I can’t. Doesn’t work in windowed mode. But if i run normal fullscreen i will probably opt for adaptive vsync.

I just use frame limiter @ 60 in MSI Afterburner gloabl setting. Works fine for me, don’t see tearing or issues.

Great everyone thanks for this, I didn’t think it would stress the gpu at higher fps to be honest, so this is a good point. Can others confirm that with vsync on gpu does run cooler.
Just to check I now have 60hz and 60 fps ticked along with vsync is this what most folk go with. My refresh rate seems to be 50 with vsync enabled is this average

If you have a high end card that costs a lot of money you might find it having to work less hard and therefore run cooler yes, but on a mid-range card I don’t think the difference will be significant enough to be noted.
My Vsync habit is purely estatic. I’ve never needed more then 50 some FPS to play super quick FPS games like Unreal and Quake so I won’t need more in this game, having a smooth screen when moving about is worth so much more then a high number in your menu screen. But some people need to have a massive kitten hanging out for all to see. :P

Cool well its a silly thing but your answer makes me feel happy to use vsync now in gw2’ so cheers. One last thing is a refresh rate typical at 50 or is that just for my rez which is a 16/9 1366 native screen rez for my laptop

No mouse lag when vsync is enabled = keeping it on.

I would vsync if you can mostly maintain fps over the refresh rate. If not, some articles claim you could end up with lower fps due to the way frame buffering works

As usual, try it both ways and see which works better.

As some people have said, there’s no advantage to higher than refresh fps, but some people claim vsync might add some input lag ( never experienced that.)

I run Vsync as i cant stand even the slightest tearing. Even when FPS is under monitor refresh ..i cant stand the small amount of tearing that is still present.

It all depends on how sensative your eyes are to effects on the screen.

I had to change my oiginal 37" LCD screen to my current Plasma screen becouse i couldnt stand the shadowing/ghosting effect you get on LCD screens (this was a coupel years back). Note that not eveyrone can see this effect, depends on how good your eyes are.

As for what you see after 60fps. You can only SEE a difference between 60fps and anything higher IF you have a Monitor with a higher hz i.e 120hz. Since the screen cant actualy show you more than its capable of..therefor there is nothing to SEE.

HOWEVER you can still FEEL the difference on a 60hz screen ..you just have to put up with horrible screen tearing.
For example with vsync off you could run at 100fps with screen tearing and dip to 80fps ..you wont feel it much if at all and you wont see it.
But with vysnc on that same dip may put you form 60 to 50 ..in which case your not only going to feel it ..but said screen will also show it.

Anyway like i said my vote goes for Vsyn ON.

Why are we voting on vsync? This is a silly thread. If you notice screen tearing and that bothers you, turn on vsync. If not, don’t worry about it. Problem solved.

I can’t stand tearing, Vsync gives a better smooth experiences. Only useful if you can drive the game 60+ FPS. If your FPS is 50 on average. no differences on Adaptive Vsync unless you’re back on the old driver or old GPU that locks between 30 or 60.
