Trading post still locked..
I started a free acct Friday and upgraded it to a core GW2 full account yesterday. I also have the full locked TP. I saw the message about a 4 day wait to sell (and requiring HoT which should not be right when I bought the core game) but nothing was said about purchase restrictions anywhere. Account upgrade FAQ mentions mail restrictions for new accounts, but also nothing about the TP.
Looks like a serious bug or oversight to me.
I was hoping that the restrictions would be lifted after 4 days, but going by the OP here, its not looking good.
I can understand there being restrictions for those who are playing for free, but I’m confused why there are restrictions in place for those of us who have paid.
The moment my credit card payment went through I should have been given access.

I’m starting to wonder if this is the issue people are having:
As ArenaNet President Mike O’Brien detailed in a recent announcement, ArenaNet is committed to protecting your game account.
Effective at 11:59 pm Pacific Time on August 28, 2015, all newly-created accounts will have SMS restrictions. These restrictions mean that you will not be able to use in-game mail to send items or gold, and you will be unable to access guild vaults. If you wish to eliminate these restrictions, simply add SMS or an authenticator to your account and the restrictions will be removed. Account created prior to August 28 will not experience these restrictions.

That message doesn’t say free to play, it says all newly created accounts.
I paid and added SMS to my account 2 days ago; still no access to the trading post

I’’m having the same issue on my new account, even though I set up SMS validation the day after I made it

Have you contact the CS Team via the ‘Support’ link above/below? What was their response?
Do you have characters over L17?
No, I haven’t contacted them yet. Today the Trading Post notified me I had to wait another 3 days before I could use it. I’ll contact them if this goes longer than that. I’m just saying this shouldn’t be happening in the first place for a paid account. That’s just stupid. I paid, I want what I paid for now.

Wonder if you have to wait 3 days, due to anti-fraud.

Too much effort, honestly. I’ll wait until it actually causes problems…

Yeah, I’m somewhere in the high 20s

According to a Dev post, all new paid accounts are vetted before TP privileges are unlocked. Perhaps, that is the delay.
Good luck.
That policy is ridiculous. For f2p accounts, fine have the restrictions. But I paid for the full game, and yet I have more restrictions than those who paid for the same game a week earlier. They had no waiting period.
So because there are free accounts, paying customers get unduly restricted now?
I sent in a ticket, still waiting for a response.

Yes they did have restrictions… all new paid accounts have ALWAYS had TP restrictions for the first few days. It’s to help prevent fraud and gold sellers..

Its mostly that RMT farmers can’t do much when they buy accounts from
stolen credit cards that are mostly detected and shut down after a few days.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
Okay, everything I had read made it sound like the TP restrictions started on accounts after August 28.
One thing I am fairly sure of, previous paid accounts did not get a pop up window/message saying they must upgrade to the expansion in order to use the TP. I am still seeing that as well.

Have you submitted a ticket? If yes, talk to support. Posting on the forums isn’t going to get it fixed.

Of course I submitted a ticket, going on 3 days now. I never claimed to expect them to fix anything from a forum post, but it doesn’t hurt to let other potential customers know how they are being forced to get the expansion if they want the same rights as previous GW2 buyers.

Actually, you need a paid account, and Anet doesn’t sell the base game alone anymore. So yes, from Anet’s standard, if you want access, you need a paid account. Thus buy HoT.

So, you are informing players that if they want the same access as those who have paid, they also must pay? Sounds reasonable.
Good luck.
Anet is not the sole retailer of official copies of GW2. There are still authorized retailers selling the original game, and in some cases for significantly less than $50. Yet if somebody buys it now, they apparently are not entitled to the same rights as somebody who bought it 2 weeks ago.
It’s really not that hard to understand. Talking in circles is not going to change the fact that they are not dealing fairly. Or else they have made some serious errors or oversights in the implementation.

Here is a Dev response about the issue:
Be aware, there have always been restrictions on new account, paid or otherwise, though they may have tightened those restrictions recently. Unfortunately, for some, CS has never been explicit about said restrictions to keep the game safer from RMTs, etc.
Good luck.

Back to the post I quoted from Anet, they were extremely clear before the date the changes occured that new accounts would have limits. They are allowed to change that. That’s also in the EULA. As to “have to buy the expansion to have access” that you also said. Again, Anet doesn’t sell the base game anymore, so they can’t advertise something that they don’t sell. And it’s pretty silly to advertise something and say "We don’t know where it’s available still (base game only I mean) so good luck finding it. That also seems really dumb to do.
If you feel you should have access, talk to support. You’re now just using the forums to complain because Anet changed things, which they announced before the changes occured.

And wouldn’t recommending to buy base game only be something akin to please spend more money if you do end up really liking the game? ANet’s just trying to save potential customers money.

Oh, I agree with you completely, but the other person keeps finding loop holes in everyones messages to say Anet is screwing him. So I’m covering my bases.
Do you honestly think that its okay to force people to buy the upgrade to get TP access when they already paid for the full core game?
And its not exactly spending more money when it was about 1/4 the price of the expansion and I have no plans to ever buy the expansion unless it is similarly discounted.

Some restriction are not based on time, but on hours played. A player could have to wait a year to unlock some restrictions, only because said player had only played a total of 3 hours.
This may be the issue. Regardless, only the CS Team can address this.
Good luck.
